Printers
Hi all my Kodak printer has just died, seems it squirts out so much ink in the docked position it has corroded the connector, anyone recommend a cheap printer/copier, that does not cost a fortune on ink, Rick

Get a laser printer and dump the consumable expensive squirt jets

Big advantage for folks who print infrequently is that you can leave a laser printer idle for weeks on end and it works first time out.
Many IJ's struggle with that and waste a ton of ink getting to the "I may be ok to print now" stage. Just look at the cost per page analysis!

thanks for the replies, but I only perhaps a dozen prints a month, does a laser warrant that? Rick

you should easily get change from a hundred quid, and at your rate of print you will likely not buy any consumables. Compare that with what you might spend on ink cartridges..
Another plus is that the print is far more durable, one drop of water does not create a colour splodge!

I also support lasers, I do very little printing, have a Samsung mono <£50 and a Konica Minolta Colour around £60. As has been said inkjets dry up

A laser printer is superb quality, I used to have an HP colour laser, black toner cart used to do about 4500 A4 pages, the cart was expensive at £80 ish. I used it just for black printing when the colour carts ran out. The printer was about £200, but to replace all carts was about £400. I now have a 3 in one Canon MF4890dw wireless printer, cost about £200 again, it is just a black printer, the black cart is about £48 ish. The wife uses it more than me for her business, she does more printing than I do with my business.
You can get cheaper just laser printers and the carts should work out cheaper. If you look around on the web, just check out how many pages it does per cart. A lot less messing about than an ink jet IMHO |

I have a Epsom Photo Stylus Photo px730 wifi printer scanner/copier.Cost me £120 around 12 months ago.(would be cheaper now)I can even print onto cd/dvd etc.And can print from usb flash drives. It has separate ink cartridges,so you just buy the one that has run out,(Black mostly for me)If using Epsom inks and paper, the prints are really quite good.

An inkjet printer will generally provide a better quality of print if you're looking to print out photos for example.
However, a cheap laser printer would be more reliable and in the long run cost less on consumables. The toner cartridges can be pricey, but offer far more prints per cartridge than inkjet so the costs end up cheaper per page. I had one for my own business, a Samsung all in one colour laser copier, scanner fax etc. It also had Wifi connections and could be added to a hardwired network. Cost me £140 new. I recently picked up an HP colour laserjet which had also did scan, fax, copy etc and sat on a wired network for free on freecycle. Worth looking there if you have time to wait for one to come up, or place an advert asking of anyone's disposing of one. Sadly mine's developed an issue, not sure if it's the drum or just out of Toner. Don't have space to store it so was gonna chuck it out. If you wanted a freebie and are passing Bristol you're welcome to it. Also, many of the older lasers will now have ready supplies of compatible toners on eBay which will help keep your costs down, although with only a few prints a month you migh want to stick to the reliability of the originals. |

HP LaserJet 1010 or 1020
Tiny little printers, super speedy, cheap toners, nothing ever goes wrong on them
