Being an auto ticks over at about 800rpm put it in to gear rpm drops as it should but if I turn the stering wheel so the power stering pump has to work some times the engine cuts out, and when I re start the eml comes on but still drives ok, no power loss or any thing

Check that when the air con is switched on the engine idle speed increases by 100 RPM.
With the air off, when driving and coming to a stop, after around 1~2 seconds stationary the idle speed should drop by 100 rpm to normal idle speed.
