Thanks System
I'd like to post this her to see peoples take on it and to check with Bat to see if it's possible to implement this
When a member posts a thread requiring help, ideas are thrown around left right and centre and yet only a select few are of any use. Other forums use a thanks system whereby a user can be +1'd or thanked for their input if it was useful, this "Thanks" or "Reputation" would then be visible in the profile section of their post? What do people think? Bat is this possible with the type of board we use?

The boards I frequent the most use a "like"/ rating system and it does weed out the useful posts as well as showing the poster some appreciation if their post has been some help rather than an empty comment ("Yeah, I feel like murdering kittens and nuns too when that happens to me...")
I'd like a "like" button. |

the like system is good imo as more than 1 might like the post but only 1 person will thank a post as i imagine it would be for a specific persons help to get thanked..

I too have seen what you are talking about but the down side is that it may put people off posting. We have a thriving self policing forum/community here, I personally don't see the point in changing it.
The like option isn't too bad but I hope we don't go down the route of a ranking system. |

there already is a " rate this thread " option at the top of each thread , tbh I don't see why one particular post should be isolated .

I posted a Q about tools on one of the boards and out of 28 responses only 2 were actually any use in terms of what selection of tools to look for rather than a selection of "buy halfords pro socket set" replies. |

a choose the best answer option would be better imo. where the original poster can choose the best answer that solved his/her problem

for what its worth , I think a scoring system for members is a bad idea , the most usefull posts etc , will deter others from posting suggestions , and end up with a sort of heirachy ......... just my opinion , please feel free to ignore or ridicule it

I agree Pete, I like this forum as is, you get banter and straight answers to questions.
As long as the problem is sorted, that's all that matters at the end of the day Just my pennies worth |

I think we do need a thanks button. It doesn't mean people are scored or put down and defo won't stop banter. Thread rating is pointless usually on here because our "self policing" doesn't actually help someone looking for the actual answer to the question. Just look at some of awesome threads we've had on LHD starter motors
I spend a lot of time on Aus Patrol forum and the thanks button works a treat And another thing, why is the search thing so crap on here ? I can't even find my own threads I know I've posted Discuss |
