Default Whats your view on this?

Hi all, so I am not a book reader, in fact, the last book i read was about 10 years ago

As it happens this is the last book i read and I have just bought it again.

I am curious to see people's views on this book, i originally purchased this book as I was attending a catholic school who were far too pushy with their views, making us pray at the start of every lesson ect ect...

I got this book as a "fingers up to the man", but in reality it was quite an eye opener and very different from the stereotype I was expecting, devil with red horns and sacrificing a baby duckling at midnight ect

I'll leave you with one quote that I enjoy

“On Saturday night, I would see men lusting after half-naked girls dancing at the carnival, and on Sunday morning when I was playing organ for tent-show evangelists at the other end of the carnival lot, I would see these same men sitting in the pews with their wives and children, asking God to forgive them and purge them of carnal desires. And the next Saturday they'd be back at the carnival or some other place of indulgence. I knew then that the Christian church thrives on hypocrisy, and that man's carnal nature will out.

ive been down the pub on a saturday looking at young ladies, guilty as charged.
i have never been one for religion, apart from the opinion it is the evil which the religion wants you to fear. sorry to anyone who has a faith, but to threaten people with shit unless they do what you say is crap. look at the muslim religion on tv at the moment, so friendly... treat people how you want to be treated and life will tick over fine.

Do to others, as you would have them do to you.....keep good karma, remember that what goes around, comes around.
All religion is about power and control of some sort......remember that power corrupts, absolute power, corrupts absolutely......being kind, truthful and caring a bit about yourself and others is being humanitarian.......I know what I would rather.....

I'm sorry... I totally disagree with this nonsense

What normal male would be looking at other men under these circumstances.

I wouldn't even know there were other men there...
Come on....

I rest my case....

This is me in Moderator mode

Please respect that other may have different beliefs to you, everyone has their right to an opinion and I find this a highly interesting thread and hope it continues to foster some interesting points.

Please please though, lets not start slinging insults about God and religion etc

I wouldn't mind a read of that though, not sure it would go down well at the girlfriends house though as her mom is a devout catholic, maybe one for the Kindle

A little bit of background on me

I am not religious in the slightest which is ironic given that my mom and dad gave me a biblical name (Zacchaeus - the tax collector from the bible) just to get me into a Roman Catholic primary school because it was the best in the area for grades

As with Alex, we were made to say prayers numerous times throughout the day and along with the normal syllabus all I seem to remember is hours on end in assembly halls listening to bible readings and singing hymns
