Default New member, advise needed

Hello all,

I'm looking to buy a patrol as a second vehicle for the weekend to get the kids and their friends.... and their bikes to parks! My daily driver is not much use for that sort of thing !

Used to own a 260 with the RB30 engine years ago, loved it, but couldn't warrant having a second car at the time.

I like the style of the 260, but may consider a y60

Main difference is that The y60 has coil spring suspension instead of leaf spring on 260 , right ?

Are they otherwise dimensionally the same inside ? With the y60 having a wider track with the wide arches?

Do any y60's come with a folding tailgate (like 260) rather than 2 rear doors ?

Would also like some advise on which engine to go for, 2.8 or 4.2 diesel?
Is the 4.2 a turbo or NA ?
Is there any difference between theses engines when fitted in the 260 and Y60 models ?
What sort of consumption do they get?

Apologies for all the questions ! Any advise would be welcome !

Cheers !

Welcome mate, sorry I have no info on Patrols, but there are plenty on here that do, someone will be along to answer your questions, Rick

Hi mate and welcome. I have a y60 so I can help a bit... Internal dimensions are at least the same , all y60's have barn doors at rear. I don't know too much about the 2.8 but mine has the n/a 4.2 which is a great engine will run forever and on cooking oil mix. There is a turbo 4.2 which was fitted to some of the safari ( imports). As for fuel consumption you can expect 20mpg urban when driven like a saint and about 25 motorway.
The main problem with any Patrol to look for is rust :- all arches, rear inner arches, rear chassis, rear floor, sills and roof gutter above rear barn doors.
Hope this helps and don't let the bad point put you off as I've had various 4x4's and all have there issues and are no better on fuel really. I love my patrol and would not want to change it for a common 4x4
