More than two on a bike
That picture reminds me of a ride I had on an old Tandem that had a sidecar attached.
I was about 12 or 13 yrs old and a schoolmate lived in a Council House at the top of a very steep hill - one Woodlands Road in Allestree and there was a Stop sign at the bottom. His Dad was a part time chimney sweep and had this great Bike with a sort of box car attached. We decided to see how many we could get on it and coast / plummet down the hill. We managed 5 on the Tandem and four on the sidecar and off we went down the hill under gravity it seemed really fast but due to the weight on the tyres it was probably only 15 m.p.h. the hairy bit was when we got near the Stop sign. Those that could leapt off and it duly crashed into the Co-op wall at the bottom (Now a curry house I think). What a pity digital cameras were not around back in 1960-61. Looking back it was a bit like last of the summer wine only with kids !! |
