Been asked to do a Photo shoot
I know this is a strange thing to post about but hay. Its not all about Nissan 4x4s
I've been asked by a friend that designs costumes who I worked with at school if I could take some pics of her and her boy friend. I thought ok. So thay want it done in a place where there's a awesome view for the background, cool I thought, I know just the place & it involves some off roading not mud but suspension flexing Anyone else here into photography? |

Very nice, whats the subject are they showing off costumes?
Remember if your going somewhere remote check and double check all your gear, you dont want to have to travel all the way back becuse of a flat battery . |

Are you doing one location or moving around?. Why not try a westerly backdrop with visible horizon as the sun goes down, bit of fill light on them and the costumes they will love it if it comes out right. Maybe even a couple of dusk shot if they can stand still for a while. As another point its always t good idea to recce a location beforehand, you dont want to find an unexpected manure pile , maybe even take a few practise shots while your there, car advert style of the terrano. |

If you can, see if you can get a willing assistant to come along with you to fetch and carry/hold shit. If you don't have a nice folding posh reflector thingy anything white will do the trick like a big sheet of polystyrene - held at the right angle to bounce light into their faces will produce a softer image than fill flash.
Take a spare camera too, just in case! Better some pics on a point and shoot than nowt cos the main camera fell over on the lane getting there! |

White sheets will work, but are kind of hard to set at the right angle to reflect the light as you may want it for portrait work. Have you got anything that can make a frame for the sheet to hold it flat and true?
Old popup tent can be used as a frame - the expensive reflectors the likes of Jessops sell are basically a side off a pop up tent covered in various shades of reflective cloth. G10 will do the trick, but if you're getting into photography then I'd advise getting your paws on a DSLR, or go old skool and get a film outfit - they sell for buttons, but the film/developing pushes up the price and increases the risk of failure too. Nothing like learning to use film well to teach you a lot about creative photography. Trouble is, you end up building up a pile of film/digital 'negs' that need to be sorted through and any processing/scanning work done on that eats into your truck repairing time! Still, at least you don't have a wife and kids nicking all the spare time in the day! |

doing the shoot this Thursday i'm hoping the council havn't filled the road in where i'm taking the pics as i want to show of my truck's off road capabilities. that's where i'm doing the shoot, as there's a nice view, and im fascinated with transmitters and radio/TV equipment
