Diesel prices and your holidays!
How will the current diesel price curtail your caravan Hols this year?

I personally am using the caravan less this year and using the tent more!!
Using my bike to go to work now, truck sits in driveway!! Less mileage i suppose! Mind you who would want to buy a big diesel truck that gets under 30mpg(22 with van!) and road tax of £430?? ok rant over   |

I've been moaning along these lines for sometime now. I really do think that fuel prices will hit the british tourist industry this year. I hate to say it but when finances will let me the truck will have to go but that wont be this year so I'm going to try and enjoy sitting in the driving seat on the driveway :

Just filled the Patrol with 80 odd ltrs at 126p.
Going to Poole Saturday, 340ish miles and I'll need more  The way the oil price is going up it'll be £6 a gallon by the summer and something will have to give as the powers at be are living on a different planet to the rest of us. Caravanning is not a cheap option anymore :x even if you use CL's CS's as the fuel is just unreal  I'm even starting to get worried about people starting to steal fuel because they can't afford it. 4x4's are an easy target high off the ground and easy to steal your fuel  Will still use caravan, but will not travel so far

That's been on my mind too. I would have thought lorries are even more vulnrable to theft as well. If this starts happening it could get very dangerous especially if they get at petrol. Jim T |

Hello Jim,
The lorries at my last job had had a cullender type fitting put in to the neck of the filler cap to stop any pipes being dropped in to the tank. Lets diesel in but not out. Mav. |

I'm getting worried about people cutting fuel pipes to steal your hard earned fuel. Derv on the road is not a pretty sight, ice rink springs to mind
Or even getting hi-jacked to steal your fuel, not your car  is the UK getting that bad 8O Its about time UK PLC has a sliding scale on fuel tax. High oil price lower tax and vice versa. They must be coining it in with higher oil company profits. When they did the sums it was 80 dollars not 135, its a no brainer. rant over till I next fill up :x

Well, Aluminium is a very soft metal to drill!.
Could easily be done with a battery drill. Mav. |

My Scenic has a plastic one so I guess a nail would do the trick. Not a prospect I fancy though, going out for the day and coming back to an empty tank and being towed home with a big bill.
