Default How you got you're nissan or ford?

How did you guys get a Nissan or ford? With us, is started in 2005 when we had a 1997 vectra that blew up when we were due to to go on a tin tent holiday. We used a brand new 2005 pathfinder "supplyed by garage". It was great lol Ever since then, we wanted a 4x4 we had never owned one and in 2006 dad got a 1994 maverick glx, it was awesome I was about 9-10 years old so don't remember that much,the gearbox broke in 2007 so I saved up for my own, got a t2 lx swb to fix up, it was too rotten so in 2011 I got another t2 but a lwb that was structurally like new but was tired looking. My swb had a great dash and other stuff. You've probably seen my other treads on it lol

Ohh and in 2010, I joined this club

i had a pugeot 406 n the fan belt decided to kill thye timing again despite having the cover in this time, it still wiggled thru the bolt hole of the crank shaft pully decided i wan't building the engine again.

Had been wanting a 4x4 for a while as i live on top of a steep hill n its murder when it snow (tho the pug coped well) and i have the horse up on the hill oppisite (that rarely sees a plough) so rather than having 2 walk up with my young daughter (under 1)

I got a 4x4, wasn't looking for anything in paticular but it was the 2.7td swb terrano that came up n i liked it n liked it even better when i got it off road now i got the bug for mud!

oh and i joined this club this yr!

Funny enough I also replaced a Vectra with my SWB T2, so I could get across the fields to where I was working. Only used the 4wd once in 3 months and it broke straight away ! Sold it after the farm work finished to get the peugeot for the road, now I've got that and the Maverick - but not for much longer hopefully !

i hope ur taking bout the pug?! nah mines id gd i had it up at a centre in fife, some of it was rough but it coped really well! (only broke a drop link which was knackered anyho)

btw check out my post on scottish pay n play need 2 find more of them and or events up here!

Had a Skyline GT-R for seven years, then in 2009 the money ran out and forced me into admitting my addiction to modifying the marvellous, impractical, stupidly expensive rapid beast.

After selling it, I sat down and thought about what I'd like next. I checked out a couple of other sizeable cars but nothing did it for me. After deciding other coupes were too small or too liable to get me killed during a flashback to GT-R ownership , I realised that the only other vehicle I'd been in that I felt comfortable in was a mate of mine's type 1 Terrano 2.

I hunted about for a petrol T2 for a couple of weeks, found a type 2 for sale in Denham Market in Norfolk, took a long train journey, test drove it, haggled the price down by two hundred quid and bought it on the spot. Stuck a tank of premium in it and then drove it 167 miles home on a Friday evening through M3/M25 roadworks without it missing a beat

The following Monday I let Nissan loose on it, had a 'B' service and kept the mechanic's checklist, fixed the few bits that really needed attention, and Mak has been with me ever since.

I Had A 53 Plate BMW 3 Series as it suited my needs at the time because I was being picked up for work every day and hadn't got back into my Carp Angling....

Then......

I Got the Carp Angling bug again, Plus I needed something to get all my tools in as My work situation had changed. Also with my Shooting, the BMW was useless in A field..So

I went back to A 4x4 and chose A Terrano because it fitted the bill as far as DIY repairs & reliability.
I Had A Frontera A Series 2.5 TDi for A few years before the BMW but the B series has the crappy Vectra 2.2 Deisel engine which didn't come across as being the most reliable unit.
I'm really pleased with the Terrano as I get loads in it, It's easy to work on & it goes anywhere I want it to.

It may not be the fastest thing on 4 wheels, but it makes A hell of A Road block when it's called for (Bottle neck filter lanes with Dick heads trying to cut you up).

many years ago, work took us on a pay and play day at Landale Quest. I had never really driven 4x4's before this day, apart from works on main roads, so I was very excited. myself and my manager were first to arrive due to my nifty directions and short cut taking, and we were presented with a choise of vehicles. We could have SWB Fourtrak, SJ's and Patrols.

Naturally I chose the Patrol called "ERIC", and off we went. We had radios etc, which was fun, and the drive off road was awesome, loved it. From that day, I wanted a 4x4 to play with, so after a few years I bought a SWB Fourtrak for £500 off Ebay. It was a real bargain, but i knew nothing about 4x4's, and because of this I didnt expect the on road drive to be as bad as it was (anything over 50 seemed very scary to me) so I sold it cheap (wish I hadnt now, worth a bloody fortune!!).

Started looking for another 4x4, as I still wanted to go off roading, so found out about the Terrano 2, more specifically the Maverick. Did my research for ages and ages, then found one on Ebay, this one, and bought it for £1k.

In 2009, with retirement looming and the prospect of virtually unlimited time in Spain in the offing (my daughter, her husband and our two grandchildren have lived there for eleven years) I decided it would make sense to buy a car and keep it over there rather than renting every time.
I looked around at what the Spanish were driving (in the area where my daughter lives 50% of people seem to live up mountain tracks, including my daughter) and realised that just about every fourth or fifth car was either a Terrano/Maverick or a Shogun.
I decided on a SWB Terrano, and found a garage about two miles away from where I live in Bristol with two of them, one a '93, the other a '94. I bought the '94 in June 2009, spent six months pottering around in it and fixing the bits that were broken/missing/worn out, then in December 2009 drove it to southern Spain - 700+ miles (Santander to Malaga region) and it didn't miss a beat. It averaged around 33/34 to the gallon at a steady 65mph.
It's now done about 20,000 miles since arriving in it's new home, and is now resplendent with a Spanish ITV (MOT) and Spanish number plates.
It's been one of the most comfortable and satisfying cars I have ever owned, it's never let me down and when it does finally go to the big breaker in the sky me n 'er are really going to miss it.

We got our first Mav from ebay in about 2004, and run it into the ground.
In 2008 a former member on here got hold of Mav (who most know owned the club then) saying hwe had a 1997 swd tdi in the front garden, beed sat there for 2 years and wanted rid, went down to look at her and got her for £200 got her brought home 4 tyres, a batt + oils & she flow though her mot.. Not looked back since

we had a Volvo 850 TDI Cd, a lovely car with all the bells and whistles, As we caravan we need quite a large heavy car and the Volvo suited our needs.
the only problem we had, was getting stuck in fields and not being able to get up grass banks.
We had a look around and decided on a Terrano, and after looking at quite a few, we bought a 2001 2.7 SE+ (which we just sold) and loved owning it for 7 years, great for towing and in the snow (what a truck)
We now have a 3.0 SVE 2005 and although it has had a few teething problems, it now drives as sweet as a nut. Will let you know how it tows next week

Mine was the result of some very careful and long winded consideration - well, opting for a NisMav anyway. The actual purchase itself was a bit of an "oooh, there's one not too far away on Ebay no bids at £500 with a three-line description! Oh, I've bid on it. Oh, I've won it..."

Six months MOT, a few days of tax and it seemed to work and looked very solid so I drove it home. Needed a pretty much full brake rebuild and a service but is great.

Not my first 4x4. Had an Isuzu Trooper Mk1 a few years back (pretty horrible), a LR 90 V8 in winter 2010/11 (thirsty but sounded nice!) and then a VM-engined Range Rover (far better than the reputation but interior quality was horrific). Sold the Rangie as it had a heater fault. Spent the past winter trying to work out what to go for. I wanted better road manners than the Rangie, but good off-road ability (unlike the Trooper which had very poor axle articulation). Something tough and reliable, but usable everyday if necessary. Considered Fronteras (I do like them) but the NisMav seemed to tick more boxes - and they're cheap! Ridiculously so for what they do. I've not been disappointed.

well i did have 2 Land rovers, a s11a and a s111, both were rebuilt from the chassis up and I loved driving them but not the oil leaks

When my father-in-law died last July his widowed wife could not drive so wanted rid of his Maverick and wanted some money back on it. My wife wanted it for the sentimental value but didn't have the cash so tried to sell it and nearly did....twice.
In a twist of fate we managed to negotiate a delayed repayment and drove it home. I was a little shocked by the fuel consumption but then our other car is a Vauxhall Zafira!
I've become quite attached to it and lucky in the fact that my wife will never make me sell it
