Terrano vs Trooper

Any views from people here ( I know its a Nissan Forum ) on the differences ( good or bad ) between the Nissan Terrano II 2.7 Tdi and the Isuzu Trooper 3.1 Td ?

I am hoping some people have either had both or at least know someone who has !!

Depends of course what you want it for. For off roading terrano wins hands down

I have heard lots of good things about the Terrano but what car dont rate them.. any comments..

For : It has a decent mix of on- and off-road abilities
Against : It lacks image and its reliability is questionable

Reliability 2 stars
Suspension needs most work, although brakes, electrical and engine faults also common. Towing strains transmission - repairs are costly.

Image is up to you but reliability I dont know between them.
Most important though, WHAT DO YOU WANT THE CAR TO DO?
The trooper is a big heavy quit luxurious beast of a 4x4 but chucks out the same power as the Terrano. So powwer to weight is better on nthe T2
terrano also has LSD so much better off road.

t2 v isuzu ....

t2 wins hands down for reliability and off road capability , also fuel economy too

isuzu wins on comfort /toys

would i have another t2 ? ...... damn right i would

First thanks briggie for answering.. so you have an isuzu but would have a terrano...

Basically I want a reliable 4x4 that will not cost me too much to maintain and will carry my wife, 3 kids and sometimes large(16st) dog where we need to go. I have done some off roading but to be honest it will be used mainly on the road (around 5k miles only a year) but we have had bad snow here sometimes..

Hopefully next year we can afford a typical family hatchback for my wife to use daily..

...so with that long summary in mind, does the terrano still fit ?

I have been offered £2200 in p/ex for my 2003 crv, 2.0vtec,136k miles against a 1996 NISSAN Terrano II 2.7 TD SLX (screen price £1795), 133k miles, mot june 2012, 7 seater.. does that sound ok ?

the above comment of mine is a purely personal one , and any choice of vehicle depends on tastes / circumstances and intended use , i had the td version of the t2 , not the tdi .

the isuzu is a large lumbering beast , doesnt particularly like going around corners too fast , but is comfy on a run and has lots of room inside.

the t2 tdi has as much power as the isuzu but isnt as big and is better in the snow

like i said above these are my own personal views based on my ownership of both models and isnt scientific in any way

i have owned a few troopers, of the top of my head a 2.3 petrol SWB, a 2.6 petrol LWB, a 2.8 td SWB, a 2.8 td LWB and a couple of LWB 3.1's. As Briggie said big on toys but a large car with a wallowy ride, not much umph and I could never get comfortable in the seats on long journeys - having said all that the SWB 2.8 td was a brilliant car but sadly they are all old and rotten now

Bear in mind I have also had a fair few T2's over the years

I meant to add a TDI does have more power than a trooper

The deal is hard to comment on without seeing both vehicles

main problem with these older 4x4 is rust. Some are good and some are not, all depends on how much it was used and location.

Seems a reasonable deal from a trader EXCEPT it's for the older type TD terrano. You'd be 25 bhp better off with the newer TDi versions ie with bonnet scoop and intercooler. Had a quick spy on fleabay and there's not many private sales of your CRV to gauge proper selling price but the few that have sold are around the 3k mark. Ignore all the trader adds. A 96 TD terrano is easily found for about a grand for a good one. A tdi though will be more. I'd sell yours private quick sharp then go shopping with cash, makes for more interesting deals
