Welding cast is not a problem in-itself, but a complicated casting like a head is to my mind not worth thinking about, all welds leave stress raisers at the limits of the weld and unless these can be machined out will be a weak point, just what you do not need on a highly stressed head, Rick

Welcome to the club, these engines are very tough, what could have caused a cylinder head to crack, so that it needs welding.
It must have been overheated, but as Solarman says, the head is a complicated structure and if Solarman says it is not a good idea, then I would be looking at a replacement, as Briggie has suggested. Otherwise you will be here again with the same problem, having broken down somewhere and having to buy a new head anyway. There may be the odd second hand one around as another option. Best regards, Rustic
