Default terranno 2001 2.7 SEi faulty speedo & mileometer

Hi Everyone. I have just purchased a teranno 2.7 2001 model and I am a new member.I bought the vehicle with the speedo & mileometer cluster faulty. The rev. counter works ok and everything else appears ok.I am told this is a common fault.I would appreciate any advice on a repair or replacement for this problem.Any other comments on this particular model (Teranno 2.7 SEi+)would be appreciated.I live in East Devon and would be interested to hear from anyone in the area.I hope to become a active member of the club and look forward to taking part in club activities.Regards John.

Could you say what exactly is up with the speedo and mileometer please.

If the LCD is displaying rubbish, this is easily fixed. Is the speedo intermittent or completely dead?

May I repeat what Solarman has said...
Welcome.

There will be a reply along shortly, but often these issues are either poor connections, or a few members have replaced the assembly.
If I recall there was a an issue with some models during certain years.
Best regards, Rustic

Hi I don`t know if I managed to reply to Timbo (getting used to site)so I just repeat myself and hope you see this reply. The LCD is complete gibberish and the speedo has a mind of its own but more often than not ,stays at zero. Thanks for the welcome to the club. Regards John

LCD will be suffering from dry joints and want re-soldering , speedo could either be the head itself -again dry joints- or a bad connection at the gearbox speed sensor.

If you allow the truck to roll forwards with engine at idle, does the idle rpm's jack up when the speedo is dead???

Hi Timbo. I have rolled down the hill in tickover and the revs stay at approx 750 the speedo stays at zero.I have sprayed electrical contact cleaner all round the speedo plug and connections at the gearbox. took it for a run and whilst the speedo is not performing correctly the needle has started to fluctuate alot more. The LCD has a mind of its own, sometimes it displays ok and then it is rubbish.I appreciate all your comments and whilst these are annoying niggles,I am really beginning to enjoy this truck. Regards John

If the rpms stay constant then the ECU isnt receiving any speed signal from the gearbox sensor, so you'll need to investigate more there. Your speedo will come to life then.

LCD panel just requires resoldering, once you have the instruments out of the dash, it's literally a 30min job, including a lengthy tea break to R+R + solder it!

Hi, I'm new here and have been reading some old post's, great site. I have a 2001 2.7TDI which I have had for 7 years, it has the same problem with the mileage reading...works some times and then gobbledegook, I want to try and repair this as you have stated above, is it obvious which connections need to be re soldered.
I also have a whine in 5th gear, not as bad as a series LR gearbox whine, but it is annoying on a long run, how hard is this to fix and is it common, will it live like this for years or is a problem that needs looking at.
Many thanks for any feedback
