Terrano lwb any tow with one??

Hi just bought my self a caravan and looking for soething to tow it with i do have a swb terrano but that my toy for getting muddy so dont really want to use that soooooooo im thinking of the lwb tdi maybe 2000 or so year ish!! anyone got one for towing a carvan and if so how do they rate? any advise welcome

Loads of vanners on here and the Terrano has a good reputation in that area. Manual will tow up to 2800kgs but the auto only does 1750kg so buy accordingly.

erm actually the auto does about 1700 the useless bloody lump lol

thanks im new to caravaning and to be honest im s***ting myself so want something that handles it well

well it seems looking from all of the reviews that these are great for towing so im on the look out for a lwb now

My 16 year old 2.7TD LWB pulls my 23 foot boat (26 foot on trailer and close to 2000kg) without and effort. Flys along the motorways, have to restrain it to the maximum speed limit.

I would benefit from an on road re-fuelling system.....like the aircraft have in-air fuelling.

Hi i tow a 2004 swift accord "challenger" 530, 4 berth with ease, dont hardly know its there, although if i could give you some advise if the caravan has an alco tow ball stabalizer (which are great by the way) would recommend getting a 2" BOLT SPACER as when hitching and unhitching the stabalizer arm will hit the spare wheel, especially on uneven ground, dont bother with the expensive accessory alco handle, to fiddly and a right pain. Have fun.

Kwondo's advice about a hitch extension is sound, I don't have one but my German hitch is a little longer than the norm. I've towed my 1700kg+ van with my earlier '96 2.7 T2 and now with my 3ltr T2 and I can say that the difference in power is worth the money! So if you can stretch to a 3ltr - go for one. The power is much increased AND the economy is better, even with the increase in cc. (Someone else will no doubt supply the technical data).

I tow with my SWB virtually every day, livestock trailers, open trailers and caravans so large that (until a recent change in the law) were illegal to tow!

see my tint tent in piccy below in signature, it was bought with my old t2 lwb tdi
in mind and for the one trip we had out with it was superb, no stabilizer of any
kind just plenty of nose weight.

we were slightly over the recommended 85 %, the 'van gross is 1660kg.
maybe about 90% not sure now but it was great, despite the patrol's ability
if had a second truck would be a 2000 2.7 tdi lwb terrano2.

slightly few years back there were terranos towing on the sites we stayed at
than discovery and in some cases more than anything else put together.

my favourite is that greenflag mayday actually bought 2 i believe to loan to
members if there car broke down mid holiday. a tribute that the t2 as plank
says could tow any uk trailer/caravan and a few more oversize ones at a push.

Agreed, very good at towing, I have a car trailer, and load it up not only with the banger, but all the tools under the sun loads of spares, drive shafts,suspension units, wheels, trolley jacks, spare fuel/water, and not forgetting the genny and the mig welder, also carried several T2s = .5k trailer + 1.8 for the T2, almost did not know they there, OH by the way mine is petrol, before I changed the Lambda sensor was getting 21 towing, have not tested fuel towing since the sensor change yet, Rick
