Flexible gas hose

Anyone know what is the max length of hose we can use on a caravan?
Been told on the site ours is on the gas bottle as to be at the back of the van (it's a 45kg one) I thought you could only us about 1 mitre or so.

I seem to remember domestic flexi max was 1.2m
You'll probably need to do an extension and T in to the front line and use plastic coated etc
Cant you just disguise the bottle you've got

They say the bottles make the site look untidy at the front.

going to have a look when we go over tomorrow, may have to run copper pipe down the van, can't turn it round the decking would be on the wrong side..

don't think next door would be inpressed with us..

Perhaps some of those stickers they put on wheelie bins

Hang some flowers off it and a bird table on top

Is this thing static then? If so you'll see underneath the gas line and it's probably compression fittings. Take out the elbow nearest the floor and insert a compression T piece instead. Then run your copper to the new flexi outlet point. Get some decent plumbers paste for the joins and tighten up not too monster hard. You should also clip the pipe up too.
Switch on the gas and purge through the hob till it'll light . Then get a squeegy bottle with very soapy water in it and spray over all the joins and watch for leaks

OR you can get a bloke in

If it's anything like the boat safety scheme, then you have to have the minimum sensible amount of flexible to allow for connection of the bottles.

You may wish to increase the size of the gas pipe, if it is a long run, normally I think they used to use 3/8 " or 10mm you may need 15mm.

It depends on your gas appliances, on boat safety all appliance are switched on and they test the gas pressure at the furthest point from the bottles.
You are allowed a small pressure drop.

You need to ensure that the copper pipe is secured adequately there is a maximum distance allowed between fixing clips, but not sure what it is.

For sealant, I have used Calortite, it looks the same as red hematite, and I use it as if it was hematite on sump plugs, oil fillers etc, and the plugs are always easy to get out and no oil leaks. Also I have used it on non potable water fittings etc.
Clean up with meths.

the regulations on the boat safety used to be, if you pay someone to do the gas work, THEN.. the installer must be GAS SAFE.
Regulations on the caravan installations could be different.

Our caravan has a 15kg gas bottle and a big 12v battery at the front.

Do do, the site we are on isn't alot more to have it just stored or seasonal.

No probs, if you go by the boat safety stuff then it will be more than adequate, it's not as if you can get out of a boat onto dry land just by opening the door..

Also any gas leak on a boat and the gas tends to stay within the boat

is it a touring caravan? or a static?

to be honest most site owners have rules of their own devising and woe betide anyone who breaks them, best ask them to clarify exactly what they want and what they will accept as they will probably moan when you've done it

It's a tourer on a seasonal pitch, best of both worlds, can stay there or sod off anywhere we like.

Was sent a letter this week with more rules then god knows what (right down to Xmas tree's)

off up there tomorrow will see whats what when we get there, don't like the idea of a long flexi gas pipe under the van thought there is a law which say's it can only be so long.

I always have a pipe longer than normal to accommodate bottles up to 47k but usually settle for 19k works out virtually the same price per kilo and easier to handle.

But, i agree, don't fancy a flexi hose the length of the caravan, and would the site owners approve? If you must use a flexi hose go for the high pressure stuff (usually orange) and fix it to the chassis with cable ties, bear in mind it is only 37 milli bar out of the regulator, leaking gas sinks, and it is out in the fresh air.

If you make permanent changes it might be a pain when you go off touring, the flexi pipe can just be tucked out of the way with a few more cable ties
