i think i made a coq up

last night while changing from 2h to 4h .... i forgot to do the change as per the manual , i nstead i changed from 2h to 4h while still in drive ( i had stopped ) ....... would i have fuffed anything up ? .... everything seems ok

thanks paul , i had stopped too , but im worried i might have done some possible damage , but if you do it as well , then it must be ok to do it occasionally

dunno about the older Mistral but the auto hubs can be engaged on the move at speeds up to around 25mph, as detailed on yer sun visor sticker.

Fixed hubs on later trucks can be engaged at any speed

As far as I'm aware you don't need to stop between 2H and 4H, just keep your speed down. It's 4L you need to stop for.

its because its an auto you must stop and put in neutral and then 4h to engage the hubs

same as the trooper in a manual you can do it at 25mph in autos tho you have to put it in neutral

not the case my auto moves from 2wd to 4wd while in drive very well thank you . not to sure about other wanabe 4x4's though

no wonder you got codded into buying a Trooper LOL.

Auto gearbox makes no difference......can still engage at up to 25mph with auto hubs...and I've engaged the fixed hubs on my wifes automatic at 70mph before now

mine will do it and does it fine but it is advised on the auto that you put it in neutral due to the strain of going from 2wd to 4wd in an auto box

as your transfer box is in the gearbox where as mine isnt so i am not too sure if that will be the difference

i know these wannabe 4x4 nissans very well had one

see they way i look at it pretend 4wd can't by and off the shelf snorkel form anywhere in the uk

i thankyou all and note comments made ,.....wannabee 4x4 ? .......hmmmmm , well my friend , i have never been stuck through lack of drive in any situation ive been in , and trust me the snow around here has been pretty bad ,.... if thats a wannabee 4x4 .. i will have another one please thankyou very much

but , transversely , i am very happy that you appear to find your bighorn ideal for your current situation , i have had many cars during my driving life ,and my mistral ranks very highly ,the worst 4x4 i had was a shogun 2.8 intercooler , very fast , very powerfull ....useless in snow , and had numerous problems .

i didnt start by saying its a wannabe that was mister extreme that said "not to sure about other wanabe 4x4's though" meaning that this was a wannabe 4x4 as well as mine lol

actually i haven't got stuck yet and i was driving through wakefield and pontefract yesterday but was only in 2wd when i was driving the doctors around to their patients

my doctor has a landcruiser ..... not sure if thats a good thing

I personaly think you'll be OK changing on the fly. However if your not sure and want peace of mind Stop and change, can't do any harm can it.
