Buying a diesel Patrol? Advice please ;)

Toying with the idea of getting rid of out current 'crop' of 4x4 and cutting then down to only one and buying a newer model. At the moment the running is between a late Nissan Terrano or LWB Patrol GR or a Landcruiser.

Now knowing very little specifically about Patrols and their engine option's what advice can anyone give when checking one out? What is the best engine option especially for an SVO twin tank conversion.

We are looking for an auto or manual diesel 2.8/3.0. Probably around £6-8k.
