help with towbar electrics
was washing the motor today and while washing the towbar the double bracket that holds the twin electrics on snapped in half with rust.... probably caused by salt water!!!
This bracket sits to the left hand side of the towbar but is welded on to it. Anyone any idea how i could go about replacing this bracket... i cant weld!! Ive now got my black plug still attached correctly to the bracket and the grey plug hanging down under the car coz the rest of the bracket has disintegrated...... and a nice big cut on my hand from the rust!!!!! |

hi,
definetely welded. the bracket doesnt sit behind the towball. sits a few inches back from it on the left handside and is def welded into the side of the towbar strut. i'll maybe need to cut off the rest of the rusty bracket then and fit a new one behind the towball. thanks for the help |

Get a new bracket from car spares ,cut from outside to centre with hacksaw so that you can twist it and insert cable ,fasten sockets to bracket remove towball and attach to towbar. Cutting the new bracket like this saves having to rewire the socket.Hope this helps

good thinking dinky. going to get one tomorrow. cuting it seems to be the best and quickest way and as you say it saves rewiring it.

When you say that the bracket was welded part way down the strut behind the tow ball, does this mean it's the genuine nissan with 4 bolts holding the tow ball or a swan neck type of tow bar? Another idea is to do away with the plate entirely and buy female type of plugs (a socket but in a plug body). I do know someone that has this type of setup to keep the sockets out of harms way.

I was in a caravan dealer the other day & they had the mounting plates for twin elec & the plates already had a slot cut into them for the wire
