Dont intend being at home much
Hi Daved
Like you we did the early retirement thing - fifteen years ago - haven't been 'home' in the UK since.
We considered the fifth wheel, having seen some fantastic examples in the US and New Zealand but the prices in the UK are just stupid! £38k plus for a fifth wheel unit and you still have to buy the tow wagon????? Just crazy money.
You can get a decent (now) wide body caravan which your Jeep will comfortably tow anywhere, for £10 to £15k in the UK. It's a no-brainer!
Regards CL.

I've never looked CL; are vans and RVs cheaper in France, there are certainly a lot more of 'em???

I agree with you re the cost of the damned things which was the stumbler last time. Our current van was one of the widest that was allowed/sold in the uk at the time and after some hard haggling was top of our self imposed budget at the time of £15k. However you know how it is and you want more and more and more

Actually thats not true, more practical, at 6ft 2 I find quite a few of the supposed spacious vans a tight fit, especially the beds. I can never work out why they advertise roof height to suit over 6ft then do a bed thats shorter than a standard double . We looked at all sorts many well over £20k. Didnt actually offer more than ours size wise and started looking at 5th wheelers.

ive never towed a fifth wheeler but theyre also supposed to be mega stable??

One things guaranteed though, you'll never see me in a motor home

See you in France...........one of our target areas , big place but not too big for our plans

Well the jobs a good'un.

Looked at three trucks today - two were right dogs although they looked nice in the Autotrader pics....

Last one was a 2002 SE+, so full leather, tints, headlight washers etc.., automatic, 56,000 miles evidenced with all the paperwork from Day 1, new tyres, brakes and other bits.

Minor bit of damage to the tip of one front wing and a scratch on the bumper.....but after my missus gets near it...

And they robbed me blind of £3200!!! SCREECH

So, Terrano No.4 hits the road early next week.

You just can't beat 'em I'm afraid.....
