get a lot of requests for this at work, as article says eu 2yr is sub set of england
wales sales of goods act valid for upto 6 years. SOGA as we call it does state that the burden of proof of the inheritancy of the problem lies with the customer on item over 6 months old so be ready to get an independent engineers report though the cost of this should be reimbursted by the customer services. the item once fault confirmed may be repaired, replaced or a partial refund/credit note/voucher based on usage. we call this depreciated credit and the value drops off compared to purchase price based on time owned and used. again mentioned in the tesco voucher in article. the report may need to be from an independent (vat registered) engineer so no getting mate to srawl on a scrap of paper and show what fault is and how occured, the cost to repair and a breakdown of parts required. this tends to apply to larger items such as tv or cooker. with a phone or kettle the store should be able to confirm its dead and hasnt suffered accidental damage.
