Default Hi I would like to hear from some Patrol owners

Hi Peeps

I would like some advice as I am looking to buy a 1999-2002 patrol in the next 2 months, I currently have a Daewoo Musso , but being 6.5 and having a few kids its does not have anuff leg room behind me so someone suggested a Patrol, is there anything I should be looking for?

I've got a 2003 . I've had it about 6 months and it's been pretty good so far . What would you like to know ?
They're big , slow , comfy do about 25mpg , part-time 4wd , excellent towcar .
You won't find that many around . I've had several different 4x4's and this is one of the least common.
There is a lot more info about them on the Aussie Patrol forum . Over there , they have a big problem with the ZD30 engine blowing up !
I've not noticed any major problems reported over here , maybe the cooler weather over here helps ?

but am i right in thinking they sorted the ZD30 problems before they started putting it into the Terrano; not sure when that was exactly but early 2000s wasn't it?

The problem engines were the early 3.0ltr's 2001 to 2003.
ZD30 engine is a 4 cylinder 16valve twin overhead cam, chain driven, 150ish BHP.
Earlier 2.8TD6 Y61 is a straight 6 cylinder, 12 valve, single camshaft, belt driven giving 130ish BHP

Very reliable and capable 4x4, on a par with the Landcruiser.

Thats why the UN use them

Think the Terrano runs the same engine but it was all to do with the turbo and engine and egt temps . The Terrano has a different set-up and never suffered the associated problems ?
Like I said I don't think it has been an issue in the UK , but it's something I wish I'd known before I'd bought mine !

It does indeed but several of the reviews I read talked about the engine being "..sorted by the time it was fitted to the Terrano..."...so assumed the same was true in the later Patrol...

Yes the problem was sorted before it was fitted in the T2.

Nissan never admitted to exactly what the problem was. As said earlier some say it was to do with the turbo over boosting.

There was problems with some in the UK as everywhere else. New engines fitted by Nissan under warranty.
