Wasted Journey to Ibstock - Jeff Fowkes Wheels.

Well having bought from the above firm before (New BMW Mini Mayfair Wheels) was offered a set of 4 used genuine BMW wheels for my BMW that I was going to put some "normal" tyres on.

I should have twigged that they were a bit on the cheap side at £145 but as I was going to buy a decent set of tyres from them as well I figured they had priced me a good deal for wheels & tyres. The photo they sent me of one to show the design was spot on.

Decided at last minute to run over and have a look at all 4 wheels rather than buy over the phone.

Out of the 4 wheels one was perfect, the other 3 had been horribly ground on the outside edge or badly machined and then sprayed except not in the bolt holes that were cruddy.
I could even see what looked like a crack on the edge of one of the rims unless it was a filler gap.

I was very disappointed that they had misled me by picking out the best one to photograph. Ended up having to tell the person I was dealing with who was a member of the Fowkes family that if the other 3 had been remotely as good as the one in the photo they would have made a sale. Put me off ever dealing with them again.

I feel for you, it's a bum deal and no mistake to find that at the end of a journey. Especially when it's patently a bid to deceive
However I'm a happy chappie today as my 180 mile journey was a success.
Just bought a Merc SLK for her indoors and the car actually matched the description.
Happy days restored

Pleased for you the SLK is a pretty good motor albeit having the rather harsh "Hairdresser" image invented by Clarkeson to put off male ownership.

They are in many ways much better than the later R230 tin top SL as they have issues with the roof seals leaking and water infecting the rear ECU /SAM units plus the air suspension at £1000 a corner can be problematic.

SLK's can creak a bit in cold weather on poor road surfaces but nothing some decent silicone based seal grease will not cure. Other common noise is the passenger seat when unoccupied rubbing against the rear bulkhead. Engine squeak (especially in rain) if present is usually the drive belt in need of replacement. Oddly enough the earlier model seem more robust as they do not have a raft of gizmos to play up so can be quite cheap to own.

What you need now is some sun!

Thanks for the info. Yep this one is plain old skool R170 . Had the top down all day teaching the wife all about 6 speed box and how springy the gate is . Must remember sun cream next time , I'm bloody glowing tonight
It's going on the ramp this week we hope to give it a full service and fix the eternal merc crappy handbrake
