My money is on the 50p falling off somewhere it shouldn't have and he's now doing an engine rebuild

On mine, it effectively a hand throttle to lifts the revs, which means it warms up a bit quicker, but is not a Choke, so you can use it any time you want to raise the revs, like when using a winch...
