Alex, you had the best of intentions for people around you, not wanting to cause an obstruction on the road. It's not good but sometimes the system or jobs worths are against us all the time. Don't beat yourself up about it mate.
 
If Alex had parked legally on the road and any one of us had to drive around his truck your immediate thought would be what an inconsiderate :augie parks a lifted modified 4x4 in the way when he could easily put a couple of wheels on the verge.

"Tips when appealing and frequently asked questions

The local authority must provide some graphical evidence to back up the enforcement. This should be either a sketch made at the time of the contravention or preferably a digital image with the date and time of the contravention showing the extent of the wheels encroachment on the footway. If pictures or at least a sketch of the contravention is not provided by the officer, the action will most likely fail on appeal.

·Ensure the correct footway parking contravention has been used. Any Non HGV vehicle parked on the footway must be enforced with code 62. Contravention code 61 on the other hand can only be applied to heavy commercial vehicles parked on the footway. If this code (61) has been applied to a vehicle that is not classified as a HGV, then the contravention did not occur and hence can’t be validly enforced.

·Most councils would not normally enforce this contravention if the vehicles wheels are resting on the kerbstone, which separates the pavement from the carriageway as it is not really part of the footway.. If you find yourself in this position there are strong grounds for a successful appeal
loading and unloading is not prohibited on the pavement. If you were loading at the time of the contravention, this could provide fruitful grounds for appeal. Send in evidence to back up your claims such as such as delivery notes or other relevant forms of paper work.

Always take a picture of your vehicle’s position on the footway to support your appeal."
