Had exactly the same happen to me when I went to buy my 2nd car from Cheshire many years ago and was stopped by an ANPR BMW on the way back

6 Points, IN10, but because I'd not been driving over 2 years I reverted back to leaner status and had to take my test again

Killed me that did, I was sooooooo annoyed

I have to ask the question.......what's all this crap about stickers and insurance defaults.......I can appreciate that an excess of them, could inhibit good vision from the driving seat, surely that is a matter for plod to caution on, as they do for incorrect window tint, but to penalise for them on bodywork seems bizarre to me....how on earth could they possible be a cause for non payment or penalty....of course I also appreciate that they could be used to hide chronic tin worm.....but what am I not understanding here.......

Some of these stickers are very beautiful and I often myself spending more time reading them and, occasionally, chuckling at the witty statements and less time concentrating on the road that I end up driving into the sticker adorned vehicle.
Or maybe it's a case of insurance companies wriggling out of paying for the slightest difference to the description on the policy that was contracted.

I can't work it out, as I would have though, things that make your car stand out, make it less likely to be stolen, as it is easier for the police to spot.

The only thing I can guess at, is, if the car has a panel damaged, and the sticker is over two, fixing it is more difficult/costly. If the paint has faded, you can't just remove the sticker from the good panel as it will show, and trying to get a replacement and match it up could be very difficult, so they would then have spray two panels, with the knock on effect of more stickers across more panels.

Having said that, I am making excuses, as all they have to say is replacement of any stickers, or damaged caused by the stickers is not covered.

The whole thing is ridiculous now though, as you have to declare anything that is non-standard, and how are you supposed to know on a 15 year old car what it did and did not leave the factory with?

When I had my Vitara, there was also a model called a Big Foot, which had Bullbar, Spot lights, Wide Wheels, side steps, Dummy roll bar, Stickers, Thatcham approved alarm/immobiliser etc. etc. I later through my non-related job, found out that all these were fitted by the importer, at the docks in Sheerness, not the factory in Japan, but When you purchased it, it was implied it was a factory limited edition.

Hi,

As mentioned, please feel free to give us a try for insurance.

We can cover almost all modifications (Even stickers!) and you'll get a discount for being a member of the forum.

Feel free to PM me your details if you would like a quotation.

Kind regards
Dan.

My past experience trying to get a quote from Adrian Flux was horrendous when I tried to use them. They never returned our calls or emails, and the worst part was after taking all our details, they then would not entertain giving us an actual quote until I had got other quotes first.

I went with Kevin Doyle, as they listened to what I needed, made helpful suggestions/reminders when trying to remember all the mods I had, had a great friendly telephone manor, returned calls and Emails exactly when they said they would, and made the whole process, as far a taking out car insurance can be, a pleasurable experience.

I find trying to get insurance for a modified car can be hard work, ringing all the companies, telling them all your info etc, only to find that most will not cover you once you have got almost to the very end. Too time consuming, and just results in a load more spam and unnecessary credit score checks. I wanted to go to a Broker so they could do the hard work for me, and was recommended KD by several members of our 4x4Respose group. I discovered, just as the members said, KD were courteous, upfront, and did what was wanted, without expecting me to try and get quotes from other people before they would help me..

Good man lazy ferret for recommending them. My truck is still bog standard so I can use the compare sites and just recently renewed my insurance without actually talking to anyone. Obviously this won't be the case with any modifications to declare so maybe there should be a sticky with a list of current insurance providers with experience in modifications as well as reviews. I'd guess there are more moded vehicles on this site than standard.
