Just seen 20 deer!!!

Me the missus and hr niece just went out for a late cruise ect, pitch Black Country roads we get to a nice spot open for miles,

Wtf is that!! We are all thinking en realised it's about 20 deer all staring at us, the LED light spooked em a bit.

Will see if camera captured it tomorrow.

Also about an hour later this vehicle kept driving past and around the area with a spot light... We were not sure what was happening, then a disgruntled farmer in a new disco blocked us in and asked what we were doing, told him we had been here for hours... He didn't mind as only on Side of road, seems the spot light chaos had stolen something, what, we are not sure...

Lots of patrolling going on, suspect either fuel or machinery

Spot light can mean several things:
- counting of animals (deer, hare, foxes)
- fox shootinkg, the most effective way of doing it. With spotlight and small calibre gun with sound moderator.
- poaching of deer. Maybe that's what was stolen...

Bit of a coincidence as we don't often see deer around here (may see 2 or 3 a year myself) but saw a young one this morning lost its way I think as it was running toward a village.

We have hundreds of the bloody things around here and they are a total nuisance when driving.
If you see one, slow down as you can guarantee there will be a whole herd of the things crossing the road, I have seen many dead dear on the road sides and quite a few badly damaged vehicles too.

"Black Country Roads" ... What were you doing in the West Midlands, you must have been on Banshee's patch...


On Cannock Chase we have hundreds of deer, quite ironic really, they say slow down to avoid killing deer, then list how many were killed.

Three months later, they say there are too many deer on the chase, and then say they have a culling programme to get rid of a few hundred.

Seems to me, they just need to increase the speed limit across the chase, and cull them that way...
Mind you, if you see a car that has hit a deer at 40 mph, then often they are written off. The deer can often be seen running away, however, their internal injuries are so great, they usually die a few hundred metres from the road amongst the treees and bracken.

One of our local butchers sells locally killed venison, we don't buy it as it's deer...

If they introduce Lynx to the chase to cull the deer, then how will the Lynx decide it's a deer or a young child, children are smaller and easier to catch than deer, and easy to carry off. If they do introduce Lynx into the wild, and I am walking in that area with my grand children, then would it be legal to carry a weapon of some sort, to defend my grand kids, should they be attacked by a lynx.

When we are on our boat, I always carry a swiss army pen knife, if someone falls in, and snagged on weed or similar, or a boat has a snagged rope, it is essential to be able to cut the rope there and then.
(And you never know when you have to open a beer lol...)
So might be handy against Lynx too, or anything else with big teeth that attacks me or my grand kids.

What are the rules on carrying knives? After all you can still buy "Bowie" type knives for campers.
Clearly if caught with one in a city or crowded place, you can be arrested, but what about a walk in the forrest?

Rustic, I think the risks of being attacked by a Lynx, even if they were to be released in the `wild`, to be so remote, it does not require consideration.

The `wild` I refer to would not ever be a public place, rather a vast fenced enclosure, probably somewhere in the highlands, or a privately owned forest with restricted access. In order for the creatures to me monitored, controlled and studied carefully, by scientists.

As for defending yourself, with a knife, against an attacking animal......a difficult job even for highly trained special forces personnel.

The carrying of knives in public places has been deemed illegal by the Lord's and laws of UK. Demonized by a violent minority who have precious little self control and a miniscule, shared brain cell.

I carry a small Opinel No 8, and a Gerber multitool, wherever I go over here, just as every other self respecting countryman......to cut string, wire, sausages, cheese, bread, fishing line, whittle a stick....etc

Not to inflict injury or damage to anyone.....
