Hi & welcome one thing you won't need to spend any where near as much time fixing the Trol compared to your old Landy

Welcome by the way from another Trol owner

Your leaky hub will actually be an axle seal gone due to excessive swivel hub movement from a duff swivel/hub bearing. The seals on the swivel are really just scrapers to keep dirt and water etc from getting in and contaminating/washing away the grease on the cv - there's no oil in the hub itself.

You want to get a hub rebuild kit, this will include all the bearings and seals required. Axle seal can be a bugger to seat correctly so I just got a garage to do it (took them 3 goes, draining the axle each time!).
Any idea where is the best place to go for a hub rebuild kit?

Milners can supply the constituent parts but don't sell a full rebuild kit off the shelf, although I think Makeitfit was able to get them to put a kit together for him.

Japanese 4x4 parts sell a kit for £40 (one side)

http://www.japanese4x4parts.co.uk/ni...005-6890-p.asp

You can also try eBay

So am I right in thinking that the oil leaking out is gearbox oil? Forgive my ignorance but I assumed what was leaking out was from the hub.

Nope, diff oil from the front axle bud, it's the driveshaft seal that's leaking.

Like I said, there's no oil in the swivel hub, just a bit of grease on the CV joint.

diff oil, of course! is this something worth tackling by a home mechanic or are there specialist tools required ie bearing press tools? BTW thanks for your advice on the hub kits. I was about to drop nearly double that price on a kit.

You can also take a screen shot of the picture and then attach it to a reply in the "go advanced " bit. David.

No bother bud, wish I'd found it before I got mine done last year as all the garage could find then was the double price kit and it was so close to Wales Trip 2014 that I didn't have time to source a cheaper one!

I think it can be done with normal tools, have never tried it myself but I think some of the other Y60/Y61 members have managed it. Check out patrol4x4.com and nissanpatrol.au forums (the Aussies love Trols) as there'll be more info on there. Like I said I was happy to let the garage do it as I'd heard from the Aussies that the axle seal was a bit of a barsteward!

Thank you, I have ordered the hub rebuild kit and a new Haynes manual so will get stuck in as soon as they arrive.
