I don't like p n p days they bore me after an hour or two.
I don't want to depend on following the leader all the time as its not fair to let the same peeps put all the effort in all the time.

if it means ive got to frig about taking documents to the council before I even try go down a lane then I give up now and want a cheap 30 quid a year to tax car.

Now i don't exactly follow correct procedure however, the solution would be to get the telephone number you need to confirm this lane is driveable, then go for it :D

One long woody lane i went down a few months ago got stopped by police about 20 mins after we drove down, some landy guys going the other way met up with me later on and said they got done for it, regs taken and photos taken :doh

Maybe a section 59 coming their way? (strike one)

I wish there were more open lanes across Cannock Chase, a few years ago, I "accidentally" found myself on one of the logging lanes.:augie
They run for miles. :augie
Some areas have wooden poles as a barrier with a padlock, some are open, and lead to car parks, others are just access points for logging, BUT there are no signs, so how do you know which is which? I was tempted to try one yesterday, as I knew that 99.9% of the time it was closed as I live close by, but to a visitor...
They could find themselves "locked in"

They used to hold 4x4 open days for 4x4's, led by the forestry commission, for a fee:doh

There are very few lanes in Staffordshire...
If I could guarantee no scratches or body dents, then I would try more.

Rustic

Me n missus and the nephew went out for a laning day 3 weeks agoish. We stumbled upon a logging lane, i put on the Wellys and walked it first.

Just as bloody well!!the ruts were horrendus, thick quicksand style mud, i myself got stuck many times, took me about 35 mins to get back to the car!!!

They were getting worried about me :lol

Ahh but... were the Wellies road wellies, or all terrain wellies, or did you have mud wellies on.
We have been told that good boots make the difference...:lol

Mind you, you were only in two leg drive...
What did you expect:...

I bet the deer or rabbits had no problems...
:lol:lol:lol

Hardly a sign anywhere round here apart from the top few lanes. Some lanes the signs get nicked.
We've been on some awesome lanes that were so overgrown you couldn't walk down them. Bit of research later we had them OK to go and had a day out with chainsaws and strimmers :naughty Nothing plain in this stupid game of hunt the lane  Similarly there are lanes the Definative map says are good to go but the farmer doesn't :( Then this happens

So Makeitfit, whats's with the Gaylander rear door, with the automatic lowering rear window, like the Freelanders have...:nenau

How low did the glass go?
Boot floor or on the mud?
:lol:lol

So what happened to the glass to cause this?

I quite like the lowering window escape hatch idea:D I had a Toyota Hilux that had that :thumb2
My rear window smashed as a result of whiplash
That was the CB aerial whipping the window . We think it was one of those odd days , the track surface was extreme and the trees were a bit low :augie The end result is what you see above :doh
I've now changed the "whip" aerial to one of those fishing rod type ones. Hopefully that'll stop it happening again. Live n learn :D

tbh if it only looks like a path, probably best to give it a miss.

hardly tread lightly making your own track.

byways, boats, tend to have signs saying so, red arrow on them.

bridleways have blue arrows, footpaths yellow.

also restricted byways = bridleway at best.

rule 1 dont go alone.

Not always, Many areas where lanes are short they tend to be forgotten and become overgrown so no users can use them. Also signposting is hit and miss depending on the council in your county. In west/mid wales there are no lanes signposted, Tread lightly have signposted the main lanes around here.

was working ok last night mate.
not clearest of maps though.:thumbs
not that much hassle to view the councils map.
make an appointment, take a map with you then mark off all the byways from their map onto yours, job done:thumbs
