I personally hate testing 4 wheel drives as a 1hr test slot is pushing it due to the increased complexity of the vehicle and therefore more items that must be checked.

If you really want an honest test, just take some yellow MOT chalk and write 'TEST CAR' on the floor pan underneath! :

Which side of Dundee is your Grandfather's farm Barrbeast? Reason I ask is that Muirhead garage is a good bet. Ian's a thoroughly-decent bloke, does good work & doesn't rip his prices. If your at that end he'd be a good bet

Just go to the MOT station that gives discount on bribes.(Calm down its only a joke)Or you think,I have heard of a place that lets you do your own M.O.T'S minus emission tests.

Some councils have an MOT facility. All they do is test, motorbikes to large vans. Honest, fair and often very helpful. QF. not a cat in hells....

Thanks bud but the farm's a small place between Glamis and Kirriemuir so a good 12 miles North of Dundee, and as I said above I've already booked her into a place near my work

Difficulty is I work in Arbroath and so have to commute. If I was back in my flat in Dundee I would just drop the truck to the garage round the corner (which I've used before) and get the bus into work but being out at the farm that isn't an option so I had to find somewhere near my work instead so I can drive in, drop the truck off and walk to work then pick her up later on with a new ticket (touch wood) and drive home.

we have a council mot center but do not do private,only taxi and there own stuff.
a mate worked at kf for some time and was told off for not earning enough in repairs.seems kf like to over fail over charge and he left.
i have never used them.
have a very good mot about 5mls away.
my car just passed the mot but i knew my tracking was out so i pulled in at a tyre center in oxford rd clacton on sea essex,flashy place,they took it in and ramped it for some reason and i waited in waiting area.
now my car at the time was a zx and could not get tracked using the lazer set up due to not enough room to mount thinge on the tyres under wheel arch or something,so needed to be done the old fashioned way on the floor with the wheel alignment gauges.
after about 20mins he asked if i would go in and look at the steering on my car.
first let me say i am the other side of 60,been in the motor trade and engineering all my life,have had my own repair shop untill illness set in and i then stopped,so i know my way around cars hgv etc.
he pointed up to the power steering box and said feel this,i did,a very slight in out movement,nothing to worry about me thinks.
says that is what is causing your tyre to wear.
says it is a mot fail if they were doing it.
ask if i want it fixed,how much,armmmm not sure need to get a price on the power box etc.
anyway i said no thanks and this was free as agreed wasnt it,yes,lowered the car and got it off the ramp and then i showed him the new mot,that week,talk about change of face.
they saw an old car and older man and me thinks we can earn some dosh from him.
in life the car passed every mot first time.it helps being handy at fixing things.
so kf are not the only ones at it.
but surely vosa must inspect more often under cover to stop this practise going on.

We're actually pretty low on the bunnies at the moment bud... but I'll bear you in mind if (more likely when) they come back!

Well just heard from the garage, failed on one item - one of the rear ARB drop links has excessive play in it... figures as I've been toying with removing the rear ARB altogether

Just asked them to do the needful as I'm gonna have enough to do this weekend without spending time under the truck

Moving forward though I would like to just bin the rear ARB altogether as the disconnect button still works but it is getting tempermental (mainly trying to get it engaged again) and when I finally get round to lifting the suspension I'll only have to extend the front links.

I know a few of you guys have removed your rear ARBs, take it there's no issue MOT wise?

Mainly just annoyed at having to pay someone to do something I would have normally done myself (no joking about penny pinching Scots now )

I know what you mean! I was really fed up changing my discs & pads at the weekend, but the thought of paying someone to do what I could do myself jsut really went against the grain
