:?:  :?:  May I put this suggestion before you? 880 members at present ...........We could have the "Mother of all gatherings" to celebrate reaching 1,000! To take the financial burden off each member ,we could have it split into local areas? Is it acheivable? Start thinking and saving now; Please post as many veiws as possible,Because that's what makes the club so special

If things grow at the present rate it may coincide with the 2008 national rally? 1000 members would certainly be something to celebrate!

see an opportunity to enhance you geographical knowledge at the same time what more could you ask for!

we only have one venue for caravans though Himley Hall, I did offer it up as a venue for a mini meet and a trip to the classic car show with no takers in the past though, so i dont expect any this time around

would this event just been a 'show' or did you have some offroading in mind?

i know this is a long shot, but i was reading total offroad the other day, and they had a feature in there about a place near wrexham called motor safari. ive just been looking at the webiste (http://www.motor-safari.co.uk/Motorsafari/index.htm). ithe site looks well catered, nothing to damaging for the 'soft' roaders out there

Large scale events of over 1,000 guests.

just an idea

Sorry but we are international, so there fore half way would be around Pakistan or Iraq both would be ideal for showing off the Nissans  or maybe the Maldives would be nicer.
Maybe where the 1,000 person lives ?

I like your suggestions, a war zone, a country facng a little political instability, or an island (difficult for towing the caravan to) the 1000th members home town sounds good, we all descend on them and make them feel realy welcome, or they think we are all weirdos and call the police!
lets hope they dont live to far from dudley west midlands.

in fact when the counter gets to 999 i may join again!

i like the idea but we have great difficulty getting members to attend 1 annual rally each year

hands up those who have been to more than two rallies -welldone-

would it not be a better idea to celebrate the running of the exsisting club and it going from strengh to strengh at the next annual rally

as if my calculations are correct next yeras it's the 5th year and if i am wrong who cares lets just get a megga get together.

Aye and theres a lane near there I fancy a go at too.

Trough of Bowland, Dunsop bridge, little trough - middle of the night - must do another rally soon.

Done a bit of googling and Dunsop Bridge (or actually a point on the moors above the village) is recognised by Ordnance Suvey as the exact centre of Britain based on the land mass. Haltwistle in Northumberland also claims to be the centre but this is based on pure linear dimensions and does not take into account the fact thatEngland/Wales are a lot wider (thus more land mass) than scotlland is. If you were to cut out the shape of britain in card/wood etc it would balance on dunsop bridge.

robobone is right we have a big bash to look forward to, but if the 1000th member joning happens close to this time then it would be a good double celebration!

I have been to 2 so far and i have only paid my mebership twice so thats 100% attendance

Just north of there is the road over Salter Fell. I've heard from another GLASS member that it may not now be TROd - LCC confirmed but only verbally over phone. The GLASS Lancashire Rep is checking and trying to get written confirmation.

Cheers

It's ok travelling to these places but would there be facilities to cope with the vehicles, caravans / tents and people that would arrive at a designated location! :o Just imagine 2 or 300 4x4's and their associated support all turning up in your back yard! It's a long way to go only to have the local constabulary telling you to "sling your hook!"
