just to add, I did the downpipe replacement on saturday. went for mild steel because cost :augie
anyway, squirted the three nuts with plusgas and left for a while while i removed the two rearmost bolts at the flange. these came off easily enough :thumbs
next was the U bolt holding the pipe to the bracket. yeah, they werent coming undone. so i removed the whole bracket :thumbs
finally, i went to the three nuts up top. hard to reach, but as suggested, used several extensions and a knuckle joint, and all three came off intact. result!!
removing the pipe was not so easy. in the end, after trying just about every angle i could, i relented and removed the gearbox crossmember. nice and easy, 4 bolts, two nuts and a jack, and then rotate the crossmember like a propeller to remove from between the two bars (torsion bars??). that way i had loads of clearance to remove the pipe.
cut the U bolt off the aforementioned bracket and replace with a new one, remove the top of my thumb on the nice sharp gasket, and replace everything in reverse.
job done. the old one was totally gone, so the terrano is now nice and quiet (relatively speaking :lol )
cheers
