I have recently taken charge of my own personal facebook thingy,

now I have looked at a few peoples 'spaces' and quite frankly I am out of my depth, it seems a bit chaotic with tag's and stuff I have absolutely no idea what it is all about.

I liked the idea of it but now im thinking it is a bit odd! To quote monty Pythons Holy Grail, 'tis a silly place'

does anyone have any advice or comments on what sort of thing I should put on there and why?

Or is it best avoided?

Id go for a NO as well. We arent allowed them due to my type of work as its very easy for folk (and the press) to hack in and before you know it your personal life is plastered all over the papers or other parts of the internet. Its also a very easy way of sending viruses to tonnes of computers at once!!

I wont ask what you do then as it might compromise you  so my hectic social life could become public property, I could end up being followed by snappers on mopeds oh dear its not looking good so far!

well I started this one over 2 years ago and have never even added a photo or my profile! but recently I have fancied getting a bit more invloved hence the thread. It does all seem a bit (at best) pointless though!

I suppose I feel a bit old and out of touch but then when I try this I feel even older and more out of touch :( :?

Pointless waste of time
Here you get info chat play games (ONE for willow only ) go and have a go
 I would never do a face book. I have only heard bad things or boredom.
Just my view

i have fb account, only cos so many folks at work are on it too.

handy way to keep in touch if off work or leave without grabbing
contact details.

alot of tripe there too, personally avoid the global interest groups
for fear of spammings. also hide your full date of birth to avoid
id theft.

anyone else from here on there, i'm under my name richard thomas
of sheffield group, piccy of me and nipper at moment.

I suppose its only as good as your contacts on there!

I think willow is right, the on line community we have here has grown over time and perhaps for many of the face book entries i have seen people are just trying to build a community too fast with no common ground :?

as with many internet webby things there is a good and evil side and you must protect yourself against the evil to benefit from the good. Ebay, Instant messaging, to mention but a few. Facebook has its place and is, as you have heard a good place to keep in touch. I do not have a facebook by choice but my wife has and she loves it. It has reaquianted us with old freinds and work collegues that we may have not heard from otherwise. And you always have the chioce to accept or reject a contact that has made a request to be your "freind". It is a large and deep site with many features. not all good. My 88 year old mother is slowly learning the basics so it cant be that difficult. It has reunited her with members of her kin from around the world.

basicilly from me its a cautious yes

I have discovered that if you reject someone, they don't get a message to say you have rejected them
