So last night on the Facebook terrano page someone had managed to get themselves buried and stuck in some good mud! Me being the closest at 35 miles I decided to try and help.

Without saying too much about the area as he was working, it was like something out of a zombie apocalypse movie.

We managed to get close but we were about 8ft.higher. The ground below was very boggy...

So we attached the winch (unfortunately sideways again given the location) we winched him to the bank, my poor cable.dragging in the mud. We then swapped over to Tow rope and I actually pulled him up gently in low gear.

You do worry me Alex.... You put yourself in so much danger... :doh

Firstly, that could have been a set up, what easier way to get a known gadgeted up 4x4 all the way out into the middle of nowhere, then mug the owner, and steal the motor. Way too risky for a person you do not know.

Not only that, but as I posted the last time you were in the wrong place with a 4x4, that is exactly the sort of vehicle the Police are on the look out for, especially with a Rabbiting light on the top, stuck in the middle of a farmers field... you could end up with your car being crushed...

I am all for helping people out, but please please don't put yourself at risk like this. The chances are, not only did you put yourself at risk as I stated above, but you were aiding and abetting a criminal, because if that guy was supposed to be there, he would have most likely had a car up to the job, with a bare minimum of AT tyres, rather than road going, but more importantly, he would have been able to ask the land owner to pop along with a tractor and pull him out, rather than a stranger having to drive 35miles each way...

See, you worry me so much, now I am stating to sound like Rustic. :doh I can't wait to see what he has to say...

The circumstances were interesting. I did think about mugging situation. But he was security for a huge 50,000 acre site. Had big security gates at the front which he opened.

Without going into detail as I promised he had taken a er wrong turn :augie got bogged and then mega stuck. Think a few people on fb cam vouche for him too. But he's I was on alert when I went there. Once I saw the entrance i was convinced. Also right next to barracks 😂

Woah calm down... It's the UK not the wild west haha :lol

He could of been driving down the road and hit by a piano but he wasn't.

How can you claim the guy was a criminal from that? I think you are thinking into it a bit too much tbh.

He's a adult, he can take responsibility for himself, Most of the time :lol

Alex did a sterling job last night, we were all in touch and a number of us would have gone but alex was the closest so he got the short straw,we all stayed up messaging each other and alex until the rescue was complete, the bloke had posted pics of him stuck before hand and we could see he was proper dug in, he even offered to pay for alex' fuel both ways, good deed done and someone saved from being stranded over night :clap:clap

Love the wild west comment :lol :clap

I must admit, I was also thinking the same thing as Lazy Ferret, I was on guard somewhat, once I saw him and the set up it was quite clear it was genuine :thumb2

EDIT - also the whole plot of land was secure through this gate, nobody but him inside!

Fair comment.

I did not know there were other's on here involved and were looking out for him, and Alex did not say that. While we are not the Wild West, there are getting more and more 4x4 robberies in the South, and the days of the good Samaritan being safe from getting done over are a thing of the past.

With stories like this...

http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/news/samaritan-driver-robbed-of-his-c-a9602/

On the Kent Police Twitter feed, there has been a spate of people dressed as Policemen going round Sevenoaks robbing people, and 3 cars this week stolen off of drives as they were being warmed up in the morning.

We may not be the Wild West, but these things do happen in the UK, and unfortunately they are happening more and more.

Given information I have been privy to, that I can not fully talk about, I would just rather take the time to point this out to Alex, and have him just stop for a moment to think about the possible consequences, which in this case, as he already posted, he did, than say nothing, and one day read some bad news on here... Lets face it, part of Alex's appeal on this forum, is he is not known for his ability to think everything through from start to finish. :doh :augie

More than likely newspapers giving you that opinion but I believe car crime is in fact falling.

Fair enough... different parts of the country, maybe?

It's not all newspaper reports here though, like I say, a lot of the info I get to hear is straight from the horses mouth, only we are not allowed to disclose specifics, and I must admit I am amazed how much goes on that the press, even local, never mention.

Down here, we have even had cars stolen from the amenity tip, as the owner had left the keys in the car, while he is out dumping the rubbish, and someone has jumped in and gone. A taxi was pinched off of the station rank, as the driver left it running, while he was back down the queue talking to a colleague, I must admit I did laugh at that one :augie.

4x4 thefts are so bad here in Kent over the last few months, the police actually gave us Smartwater security marking kits for our cars, but even then they said that being so close to the ports, that the chances are, by the time we have noticed our car is missing, it will already be across the channel and gone for good.

I still think that it is better to be safe than sorry.

You did well Alex:thumbs:clap:clap Phone numbers were exchanged before Alex set off & there was quite a few of us who stopped up late to monitor the progress :augie The lad who got stuck was at risk of his job being on the line due to his T2 sinking so Alex not only recovered him he's prob saved the guy's job:thumb2 the lad who was stuck was extremely thankful & posted up his thanks many times on FB. Bet it was hard going at work today for you Alex as you must have only got a couple of hours kip:doh

Cheers chaps, it's all part of being in this happy community. I did suggest he join up on the forum, time will tell :)

I am quite tired too actually :lol

I had rick in the back of my mind "make sure you leave atleast a few turns of cable on the winch drum" :lol

"Never winch sideways" was another one, one i couldn't avoid unfortunately :o

Yeh well done bud :thumbs

I'd get myself a synthetic cable for that winch next, much safer and a strap so you can anchor yourself to the tree next time instead of wedging against it :thumb2

Do explain? I have a strap but I could not see another way round.

The tree was close to the drop, meaning that I had to sit "behind the tree"

How would I anchor myself to the tree? (Ive just woken up and I'm scratching my head)

Not seeing the "site" I don't know what it looked like but if the tree was close to the drop maybe wedging against it was the only option :nenau but if there was another tree etc in a suitable position you could put a strap round that and shackle it to your rear recovery point(s) to provide an anchor instead of testing the crush strength of your bondage bar by wedging against a tree :thumbs

Well done Alex...

Initially with the information given, I totally agree with Lazy Ferret's comment, something that Alex's Uncle Rustic would probably have said at the time.:thumb2 I think about the film, "The bone Collector"
The point is, that all members on this site look out for each other, and don't want any one to fall foul of any misfortunes.

Having read how the incident evolved, Alex was very charitable,:clap but on the other hand if this guy was such a big land owner, you would have expected him to have local contacts with other land owners in the area, with a vehicle more capable, like a tractor, than any normal 4x4

Rustic, the trouble was that the chap stuck was not meant to be doing that then and there  We did suggest asking for local help but it seems this chap is meant to be security :lol
That's why his job was on the line and why the FB collective was mustered . Alex was kind enough to admit to being closest and so we all gave oodles of advise in the modern way via social media etc :thumbs
