Yes, I want a Volvo 850, 240, 960, or v70 estate, dad had a 850 then wreaked it:( and I want one:D so I was thinking of obviously getting my little Hyundai on the road, probably build up some NC, selling the Hyundai as its a very good clean car then seeing about getting a Volvo estate:)
Getting rid of the terrano then?
I can only now just about afford to run two vehicles.

why not build up no claims then insure truck? Volvo probably cost more to insure

Definatly not, the terrano is going on a limited mileage thing so won't be as much a year

looked at a v70 before we decided on the vectra( it was a mpg call!). good size but bit thirsty for a "modern" car, vectra cdti does 60 mpg, vectra wasn';t to good at pulling so we got terry. it had the power, but it smoked the tyres in really inappropriate places....sleepy villages etc etc
good car the volvo.

Basically because my truck is expensive to run, and with no carpets etc, its more a toy and camping vehicle, the Volvo would be my daily driver, a 2.0 850 is 750 ish for my to insure at present

It will still be about £500-750 for you in a few years even on limited mileage. Who knows maybe more in the future.

Aye, but their is the multi car policies, where I could put both vehicles on the same policy, thus, refusing the quote

Aye, well I'd by looking at a 2.0L that will do 30mpg+

volvo diesels dont do 30 mpg in real life not even the diesels, sorry. astra or corsa 1.7diesel will. if you are looking at a couple of hundred quid type cars you have got to ask a couple of questions..
1. is it cheap because its thirsty
2. is it cheap because, although it is good on juice, it is mainstream
3. its a pile of shite
if you need mpg and space vectra estate all the way, the earlier 1.7dti will run on single tank veg oil too. volvos are a good car, but they are cheap for a reason, mpg

Volvos are good for reliability but just as thirsty as a terrano only volvo I would entertain and that would be a little drift machine

so low 20 mpg at best. i had a 360 glt, taxed an motd for 7 months, full sevice history, 1 owner. £ 40 quid at auction i paid, no other bidders, great car, mint, thirsty as fook! if you are on a budget i would avoid volvos purely for mpg.

Having had many Volvos, 240's x 2, 480's x 3, 850, and V70, all petrols, you are going to be in for a big shock if you think they are economical. The last 240 2.4L went and was replaced by the T2, as it was so thirsty. Running solo, we were lucky to get 22MPG, most times, with round town work, it was down at 15 to 18 MPG.
The 480's are good, we have had 2 x 1.7, and a 2.0. The 1.7 manual, was often at 35MPG, the 1.7 Auto was normally at 30, and the 2.0 manual, was also 30MPG, having said that, I think I could have got better if they were not so much fun to drive, and encouraged lead foot syndrome.
The 850 MK1 2.3 was a great car, best of the big Volvo's, but even doing mainly motorway mileage, it was only 28mpg.
The V70 was such a nice car to drive, and was good on MPG, again mainly motorway, I was able to hit 40MPG, but as soon as you started driving round town, it dropped to 25. The problem with the V70, it was made when Ford took over Volvo, and it was so unreliable. It had so many faults, Many that were known software problems, and if I had lived in the USA, would have been sorted out FOC, but because we are the UK, they charged for the fixes unless the car was still under warranty.

low 20's mpg would indicate something wrong tbh, i do 25 towing a 1200 tintent up welsh hills with a LOADED truck. we looked a\t a td5 but the mpg and veg oil swayed the terrano. its all about££££££ at the end of the day!
Aye, but their is the multi car policies, where I could put both vehicles on the same policy, thus, refusing the quote

It'll do 28 when driving like a granny, but normally lower, I am going to do a engine rebuilt when I have time, since I'm keeping my truck forever, its not about money, as I know for a fact I'll never make my money back:lol:D

I used to have traders insurance which covered for personal use only had to tell them what i was driving if it was performance car or over a 3.0 but it worked out cheaper for me as i had 3 personal vehicles and also used to buy and sell the odd car and van here and there.
but at your age your going to be looking at a 3-4k just for normal day to day insurance when you pass
a friend of mine not long passed hes 23 and still has to pay 2k + on insurance for a 1.4 ford focus there all just rip off merchants
my insurance is up now but i had insurance through dave brewer 24 no no claims to use on the terrano and i payed 600 mods declared before that asda £670 standard truck with the misses on there shes 22 yo 3 yr no claims

Got to remember Ryan's truck is an older T2 without intercooler. I think our older ladies like to tipple a bit more than the tdi's do. I would be over the moon with 30mpg, rarely get much better than 25-28 when driving gently.
The short commute with pent up work frustration uses much, much more. Go with the veg boyo, your engine will thank you. Mr Diesel invented the diesel engine to use vegetable oil, just cheap car builders prefer the thinner stuff.

£300 difference between a 2.0L 850 and 1.0L atoz, what i'll see about doing is fixing the atoz up, probably running it a bit, then selling it on for a tidy profit, then getting a 850/V70.....or even 240:naughty
start off small and work up:thumb2

Going to be selling the Hyundai as its really not my cup of tea, good enough little car, but its totaly impractical for me, thought it would be a good little car for useing until I'm 25 but no, it would drive me nuts, also, parts are ridiculously expensive for what it is, so I'm in the process of getting it MOD'd and then I'll flog it, then get a Volvo as the atoz are making good money just now, anyway, so after a bit of thumb twiddling, pizza Eurovision and internet, I have finally found away of buying and insuring a v70/850
sorry to annoy you all again!:augie

Then what are you going to sell to buy a volvo?
Why not stick with the plan mot insure the atoz get your test passed and then take it from there
Get that test passed and gain some independence
