well, you may remember iasked a while back about getting a stationary engine, well i got a lawnmover for £10:eek: im bloody happy, ok its a non runner but just needs the carb cleaned out, this is what i want to make, my lawnmower is a briggs & stratton:thumbs and 148CC:eek:

should be fun exercise as modern gennies create 12v then
use invertor tech upto mains.

tbf in the caravan i'd be happy with a good 12v source
as most stuff is 12v anyway, atleast that is is designed
for tin tent life.

being easily able to charge the battery(ies) would be handy,
looked at solar panels and seen some compact windmills.

the latter make some good hp in volts but do tend to be
noisy as they chop the air up around them.
 
thanks:), i've started stripping the engine as i'll service it, put new oil in etc, the idea is for possible caravan use, work site, home, when ever i need 12-14 v, im going to use a terrano alternator
 
The real trick is to make as near silent as possible, then you may get away with using it when and where you wish.
Quiet should be the main aim of the game.
It poses some interesting challenges, but nonetheless achievable with some ingenuity.
 
well, i got the tank off and fuel system, and its got water in it:doh engine seems ok:rolleyes: whats the best thing for cleaning the tank and carb:nenau

ray: i'll see about a exhaust system for keeping it silent:)

Have you thought about lubrication ? I thought they were lubed by splashing the oil around during mowing ? :nenau
 
thats trouble, even silent ones just aren't.

mentioning terrano alternator how about
just using the truck as is, on tickover
it creates Watts gennies can only dream
of.
 
Will you need a battery connected for exitation or they permanent magnet?
 
Good luck in your projects Ryan i have a mower that looks the same but it started over fueling and black smoking,you could have had that but you live so far away.

Standard car alternators need a battery to get them going, via the warning light, interesting project though, your engine may struggle at high outputs but it should work OK, but noise could be a problem, be interesting as to what fuel consumption works out at, Rick
 
i wonder if the engines in suitcase/quiet gennies are built specially quiet
as compared to noisy frame style units or if its down to silencer design.

its one thing that gets to me on quiet peaceful camp sites the need
for such items, on a building site its a different ball game....

as critism to you or them, I've toyed with such a scheme myself.

though on camp site decided its better to reduce need for electricity
than make more....find it amusing how many gens are used to run
playstations and tvs in caravans when surely should be trying to get
away from it all for just a few days.
 
Same here mate no criticism intended, just thought you might get a problem with lubrication because the mower will be stationary rather than being bumped round a garden.

Yup, just watched a video on YouTube about the excitation process. It's the 5 watt battery lamp on the dash that does it:thumbs

I didn't think you were criticising. I'm still trying to think about a silencer system. :rolleyes: proving hard
