Any views from people here ( I know its a Nissan Forum ) on the differences ( good or bad ) between the Nissan Terrano II 2.7 Tdi and the Isuzu Trooper 3.1 Td ?
I am hoping some people have either had both or at least know someone who has !!
Thanks

Briggie has had both :sly
Depends of course what you want it for. For off roading terrano wins hands down:thumbs

I have heard lots of good things about the Terrano but what car dont rate them.. any comments..
What Car Review
----------------
Nissan Terrano 4x4 (93 - 07)
For : It has a decent mix of on- and off-road abilities
Against : It lacks image and its reliability is questionable
Reliability 2 stars
Suspension needs most work, although brakes, electrical and engine faults also common. Towing strains transmission - repairs are costly.

Pay your £10 and the repairs wont be costly :sly
Image is up to you but reliability I dont know between them.
Most important though, WHAT DO YOU WANT THE CAR TO DO?
The trooper is a big heavy quit luxurious beast of a 4x4 but chucks out the same power as the Terrano. So powwer to weight is better on nthe T2
terrano also has LSD so much better off road.
t2 v isuzu ....
t2 wins hands down for reliability and off road capability , also fuel economy too
isuzu wins on comfort /toys
would i have another t2 ? ...... damn right i would

First thanks briggie for answering.. so you have an isuzu but would have a terrano...
Basically I want a reliable 4x4 that will not cost me too much to maintain and will carry my wife, 3 kids and sometimes large(16st) dog where we need to go. I have done some off roading but to be honest it will be used mainly on the road (around 5k miles only a year) but we have had bad snow here sometimes..
Hopefully next year we can afford a typical family hatchback for my wife to use daily..
...so with that long summary in mind, does the terrano still fit ?
I have been offered £2200 in p/ex for my 2003 crv, 2.0vtec,136k miles against a 1996 NISSAN Terrano II 2.7 TD SLX (screen price £1795), 133k miles, mot june 2012, 7 seater.. does that sound ok ?
the above comment of mine is a purely personal one , and any choice of vehicle depends on tastes / circumstances and intended use , i had the td version of the t2 , not the tdi .
the isuzu is a large lumbering beast , doesnt particularly like going around corners too fast , but is comfy on a run and has lots of room inside.
the t2 tdi has as much power as the isuzu but isnt as big and is better in the snow
like i said above these are my own personal views based on my ownership of both models and isnt scientific in any way

i have owned a few troopers, of the top of my head a 2.3 petrol SWB, a 2.6 petrol LWB, a 2.8 td SWB, a 2.8 td LWB and a couple of LWB 3.1's. As Briggie said big on toys but a large car with a wallowy ride, not much umph and I could never get comfortable in the seats on long journeys - having said all that the SWB 2.8 td was a brilliant car but sadly they are all old and rotten now :nenau
Bear in mind I have also had a fair few T2's over the years :thumb2

Thanks for all the comments..
What do people think of the offer I have had ?

I meant to add a TDI does have more power than a trooper :thumb2
The deal is hard to comment on without seeing both vehicles :nenau
main problem with these older 4x4 is rust. Some are good and some are not, all depends on how much it was used and location.

Seems a reasonable deal from a trader EXCEPT it's for the older type TD terrano. You'd be 25 bhp better off with the newer TDi versions ie with bonnet scoop and intercooler. Had a quick spy on fleabay and there's not many private sales of your CRV to gauge proper selling price but the few that have sold are around the 3k mark. Ignore all the trader adds. A 96 TD terrano is easily found for about a grand for a good one. A tdi though will be more. I'd sell yours private quick sharp then go shopping with cash, makes for more interesting deals :naughty

Thanks for that.. I wanted a Tdi and I just realised how dumb I was reading it wrong !.. ah well I have a few other TDi traders interested so I will put my CRV up for sale and see what part-ex I get at the same time..

the bit in what car about transmissions is over stated.
I was warned off mavericks and terranos by a friendly
mechanic, based on gear box issues.
yet been in the marque 7 years now, a t2 then a patrol
yuck and back to t2 and met hundreds of owners through
this club and other forums.
in that that only 2 cases of swapping the 'box spring to
mind. the biggest issue is misunder standing of the auto
hubs, but then many trucks have them too.
worth noting a t2 has a max tow weight of 2800kg vs
the 3500kg of a patrol or land rover product, but hey
2800kg is a good load.
my favourite anidote is couple of years back the caravan
clubs green flag unit may day bought a couple of t2s to
loan to members, should their vehicles be disabled whilst
out on holiday with tin tents. this shows their ability with
any uk caravan and their flexibility as 7 seat estate car
/mpv/4x4s.
and dont foget the 2.7 is a legend, was use in the london
taxi cabs, practically bullet proof, perhaps not as refinded
as some but easy to work on and cheaper to maintain,
much cheaper as I found than the 3.0 patrol.....

and bear in mind all the auto-hub and gearbox issues are associated with the Td rather than the TDI and they have a different gearbox and most don't have auto-hubs.

I have used a T2 for work and leisure for the last 3 years now after having got rid of my last land rover (owned that marque since I was 17 and lots older now) and can say its reliable, tows better than most, more economical and better off road......... and I've done a lot of off road.
My T2 is a 2k (X) model, auto hubs.. TDi. and it works hard for its living.......

Thanks to everyone..
I have my feelers out for a nice Tdi 7 seater terrano and it will depend on whether I sell my CRV privately or trade it in as to how much cash it leaves me..
If anyone hears of a good one in the meantime ( not too worried about mileage ) then please feel free to email me on forumlogger@yahoo.co.uk..
I am on the cheshire/staffordshore border but obviously willing to travel for the right one..
cheers
