more of a general question set what makes a 61 differ from a 60?

when did the engines change, correct me but y60 had 4.2 and 2.8
y61 appears to have 2.8 and 3.0. Whats the availability of slush
boxes across the age range, what are they like, including boxes for
reliability or known issues.

do both models feature live coil sprung axles front and rear, is trany
full time, believe some had/have rear dif locks, which please?

looking at 7 seat lwb and believe on later ones gained 3x 3 point seat
belts to 2nd row, when was this as would be another bonus over the
terranos centre lap belt.

thanks

Dunno about the Y60. I have a LWB Y61 05 'Troll 3.0D SVE. It has coil sprung live axles front and back. It has a rear locker. It has part time 4wd. It has semi-auto freewheel hubs (semi, coz you can lock them manually if the mood takes you).

Cheers

The Y60 was introduced in 1989 if I recall.

They had 4.2TD (Diesel) and 4.2 TB (Petrol) motors, both being normally aspirated. They continued until around 1998 and the later diesels were 2.8 turbo diesel engines.

They have live coil axles front and rear and the drive system is pretty much the same as the Terrano's IE no center diff when in 4WD. The high roof models had LSD's in the rear, the later models have a rear difflock operated by a switch in the cab, this configuration means they are pretty much unstoppable :thumbs

My Cypriot spec high roof Y60 has 10 seats, 3 in the front, 3 in the rear and 2x2 inward facing rear seating for 4 more people... currently all my rear seats are removed and a double bed constructed for the impending Morocco trip :thumb2

3 up front sounds fun, is that a bench or 3x1 or 2+1 config?

You have to be on intimate terms with whoever sits in the middle (3rd) front seat as they have to sit with one leg either side of the transmission tunnel, if it's a female then obviously the hand brake gets applied each time the vehicle stops :sly:naughty:augie
