Y61 Turbo not kicking in

ZD30 Y61 - I own a SWB (2003) & LWB (2001) - both great trucks. Slight problem with the turbo being slow - needs more revs - to kick in on the LWB - I am told it could be the EGR valve being dirty and the turbo waste gate needing a clean - any help/advice appreciated.
I have changed all the vacuum hoses for new - made no difference except the engine bay looks prettier with red and blue vac hoses

Turbo doesn't have a wastegate as its a variable vane turbo, could be the vanes sticking and the EGR could be sticking too. Best thing to get is a boost gauge to tell whats happening.
