Hi all well since Slindon every so often when coming to a stop got a shudder from front off side, had similar on the T2 when a hub was playing about, so pulled the hubs today and the two bits in the pic have broken off on the OS hub, NS is fine, so all you troll owners, is there a way of disabling the Auto part while retaining the Manual? whilst I have had them off did not have time to strip completely to find out what makes them tick, or are they not up to the job and require replacing with a purpose made manual one, if so any recommendations, it is not a problem to lock them up as soon as I get to site and unlocking before leaving, Rick

Assuming they're the ones with selectable Auto or Lock it's a 2 min job to remove the auto part and turn them into manuals (auto becomes unlock).

Try my Y61 build thread or have a search of the patrol4x4 forum :thumb2

Ah thanks Rob I thought it should be straightforward, will have a look, Rick

Well had an hour looking at these hubs, and now know that the two bits broken off only handle the manual locking, the auto operation is unaffected by the lose of the broken bits, and the auto is much more robust than the T2 so will be keeping them as auto, as far as I can tell they do not lock and unlock on change of direction, I have not been able to determine how the broken bits caused the shudder, but after removing them it is no longer occurring, further investigation will be done when I get round to doing the oil seals etc, Rick

I was wrong it did it today a couple of times, so had more stripping and found that a washer with 4 locating pips had worn and so after putting it in 4 wheel these pip points were pushed from there locating slots onto the main part so the spring could no longer push it back out of locked position this probably due to oil drag at low speed caused the NS shaft to turn and locking the hub causing the jerk, rang Nissan and thy said most parts are available, so thought great, but looking at the pics he sent me to identify the bits I could not, so sent him pics of my hub, turns out it is not Nissan but aftermarket, so I will be doing some precision gas welding and grinding on these two bits to get my hubs back up to speed, this is for auto, need to replace the 4 pips in the centre to stop it rotating and jamming

And this one needs these two legs re fitting, but not so bothered about theses as they are only for the manual lock and are crap design, but if it works once it could be worth it, Rick

I binned my auto hubs and bought a set of manual best £100 spent, also never unlock them have found this turns the diff keeping a good supply of oil to the half shaft oil seal and it has not failed since.

Kind regards

Russell

Blobs on legs are to be ground down so they fit the hub in order to stop them spreading which is a poor design fault
