Hi chaps looking for a bit if advice, today I went to look at a 2010 x trail with 63 k on the clock. Not a cheap car at Ten and a half but really fancy one but the sales man said I will only get auction money for my terrano so have decided to sell it private. Does any one know what the new x trail is like for reliability and any common faults ?? It's a 2 lt deisel top spec 173 brake and the tax is a little less than the terrano. Am I doing the right thing ?? Cheers

I like the look of them but when I asked same question a couple of years ago i got shot down in flames, still like em tho:thumb2

I have seen a couple close up, one is in the SE4x4R group, and they seem a nice car. I must admit it's a car I will be looking at as a replacement for the T2 when the time comes.

Can't comment on the long term reliability, but I would say that the lack of owners on a forum like this imply people are not needing to find stuff out about them, so they must be pretty good.

I give any car the Honest John test. Go to the "Honest John" website and have a look on there. You tend to get a "warts and all" review.

The reason I bought a Terrano in the first place was because I trawled through all the 4x4 reviews until I found something that didn't look like a turkey!

:D

I had two from new as my company car. that was from 2003. I had the first one for about a year and then moved job, no problems with that one. In the new job I ordered another one and ran it for 3 years, did about 75000 miles. The only problem with this one was the turbo started to whistle so had to be replaced. Really enjoyed driving them.

They look nice but ??

A lad I work with bought one it was a 56 plate with 60 k miles that he owned about 4 years ago he loved it until it broke down with a suspected turbo failure. It was a 5 door diesel model.

He took it to local dealer that was within the Inchcape Group where I work and they said it was likely the turbo had caused engine failure but could not say until the head had been removed.

Cut a long story short he traded it in elsewhere as a non-runner as the repair cost was more than it was worth.

I really like them and you can hear hard luck stories with many different makes but it put me off them. I suspect it was not serviced at main dealer by the previous owner.

In the four years he owned it how many miles did he put on it too?

I'd be tempted by one I must say but it'll be a while before I need another car with a bit of luck.

I think if you like to do repairs on your own, the xtrail ain't a car to go for. That's probably why so few people attend any forums owning one? To much electronics and most is computerised.. That's why I went for the Terrano!
