Any body have any useful tips about buying a 54 plate ish X-trail :D
My neighbour is of to see some in the morning so needs some pointers :rolleyes:

As I also have a Xtrail (2.5 sport) from 2000-70,000 miles, I'll jot afew main pointers...

Assuming he will be looking at the 2.2 dci, then he should put a quid or two away each month for a replacement turbo, egr valve and intercooler. All 3 will be needed if he keeps it any length of time, possibly pump suction valves too. Check for timing chain rattle on the diesel also. Depends on the mileage, but all are expensive... If not doing big mileage, buy the petrol 2.5. Diesel will do 35-38mpg, the petrol will do 30mpg.

Rear antiroll bar drop links and bushes every 20k.

Front calipers tend to seize at random, re-con's are about £100.

Paint. Stupidly thin and marks easily. Rust on the sills where the door rubbers rub, and front of rear lower archs where the mud sits.

Avoid models with the built in sat nav. It's crap, and the resulting single DIN stereo is even more rubbish.

Buy on condition and evidence of maintanance rather than mileage.
 
sheila had one ( company car ) ,51 plate , 2.2 sport diesel just hope you dont need a catalytic converter , thankfully the company paid, i believe it was around the £900 mark :eek:

oh and throttle assembly was around the £350 mark too i seem to remember
 
You don't have to remind me why I still drive a 16 year old 2.7td Maverick.
I know the history from new, which is worth it's weight in diesel. :lol :lol

A brilliant piece of Japanese engineering. I particularly like the front wheel bearing assembly, as long as they are adjusted correctly with pre-load etc


The money I could have spent if I had swapped cars say every 4 years....:augie

I would jump into it tomorrow and drive to the south of France if I had to, without any prior work, best car I have ever owned. :thumb2 :thumb2
 
So long as your threads aren't shagged like mine :(

I think that looking at the design, that yours weren't adjusted correctly, allowing the nut to wobble on the threads

When you re-assemble, follow the adjustment instructions in the manual.

If the vehicle has ever had new discs, then this adjustment was critical following the replacement.
