hi,

seem to have got a slow leak from bottom end of PS pipe where loops
round, as if was going into lhd ps that isnt there....

have topped up ps fluid twice now, about a c type battery's worth
in terms of volume in ps tank.

anyone used the wynns treatment, packet says use 5% of volume
so what is capaciy of ps system, would topping up ps tank suffice.

also to get to bottom of ps pipes, garage guy says they are a cooler
is it case of removing bash plate, or do i need to take rad out :(

yes, used the lucas stuff, decent tbf as long as leak is from pump and not hose or union etc

wonder if related that sometimes had a bit of a groan from the steering
as setting off from cold. literally as steer out of parking space .

dont recall this on my 96 t2, scanning old threads in search on here
many leaking trucks seemed to be model year 2000+

From 99 onwards I think Terrano was a pile of shit compared to earlier versions

" wonder if related that sometimes had a bit of a groan from the steering " This might be steering stops with no grease. "david.

increasing renault input?

Indeed, look at this crap late c200 bevel gear on left compared to an ancient nissan h233b bevel gear on right

See this thread about the stripping of an early 90's terrano wd21 rear h233b axle, compared to a late c200 terrano r20 axle. The later ones are made from shit steel and look like bloody chocolate. I have posted about my lsd not working anymore and apparently you wont find any of the post 2000 terranos with a functioning lsd as they mostly have this crap later c200 axle made of chocolate

Edit:

Also, I've seen year 2000 and newer like 2003/4 that are rotten as hell, compared to old 98 motors that are 100% solid, this is quite common. Now lucky for me mine is 99% rot free and I've undersealed the important parts, but this rot is clearly down to the fact that nissan has overlooked sealing the bodys of the later terranos

Now, don't get me wrong, i love my truck, but if i knew what i know now I'd have seeked out a tidy 98/99 lwb with the stronger h233b axle, better body sealing and less complicated engine management etc etc

the groan seems to come up steering column, or did.

doesnt sound like steering stops, they can clunk, on reverse hard lock.

I had this on a previous T2 a groan that felt like it came up the coulumn, it seemed to happen on harder conering when the weight of the truck shifted, I could never quite put my finger on it, it almost seemed as if the inner part of the column was rubbing on the outer quite low down :nenau

My point is - it was not accompanied by a leak of fluid and never caused a problem, we couldn't even find the source or reproduce the groan on a ramp! So maybe the two things are not connected!

Could you have a loose joint in a pipe? If it were me I would try some stop leak type stuff and see how it goes :thumb2

Had this on mine. The pipe just loops round to cool the fluid a bit. The problem is that it is mounted to the chassis while the other end of the pipe attached to the power steering pump that is mounted on the engine - so as the engine vibrates and moves around the pipe rubs on it's mounts until it gets a hole leaks.

Take the bash plate off and you'll see it. I just cut the pipe shorter and joined the two ends with a bit of fuel hose. It's been fine for the last 3 years.

that sounds like a plan :thumb2
