Hi all,

Looking for some help!!! Came to start the big-T this evening and it would not fire at all - not even close. Now, she has never been a good starter, often seemingly starting on 1 or two cylinders with a big cloud of smoke, then running perfect after that!! Never failed to start though.

I used her last night, parked up and today, nothing. Turns over fine, but wont catch.

So, i took to testing the Glow Plugs, as per the instructions. These are my results:

1. Get 11.85v on the Pre-Glow, BUT when the relay goes out, i get nothing (0.00v). The instructions say it should still go to intermediate glow and maintain some voltage. Is this correct, or have i misunderstood??

2. When testing continuity between the female connector and earth, i get 0.00Ohms, not 0.5 as expected. What is at fault causing this?

3. When testing each Glow Plug to earth, i get 0.1Ohm on the 1st and 4th cylinder and 0.0 on the other 2.

All of the above indicates to me 4 x dead (or nearly) glow plugs and potentially a fault somewhere else due to lack of continuity. Unfortunately, i have never dealt with glow plugs etc. before.

I have reassembled / cleaned all parts with a scour pad too, but still no joy. Do i simply need a new set of plugs, or something else!??

She is parked in front of the garage so I cant get my other car out now!! Need to try and fix ASAP..... all help / guidance appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello cheshiref1,

I should invest in 4 new heater plugs, they all appear to be US from what you have described.

Hi toolbox.

Thanks v much for your reply. Do you think this is the only issue then? I thought the relay symptom was also a little odd (switching off power / no intermittent heating). I suppose if the plugs are totally fubar'd then who knows what they cause! :)

I will call Milners tomorrow and order a full set and try that!!! To be honest, I really should have sorted the poor starting much sooner.

Thanks again.

Jon
