Hi
Just bought a r reg Maverick with suspected slave cylinder problem. If only? Didn't view it first, just got it delivered. Anyway it has a full clutch pedal which operates to its full travel. I cannot select any gears, i have turned the engine off selected second gear and started it up until it fires and runs, it drives fine even though i cannot change gear, i pushed the clutch down whilst it was travelling forward and put my foot on the brake. It stalled, then i put it into second gear with my foot on the clutch pedal and brake pedal, tried to start it, no chance! I have taken the rubber gaieter off from around the clutch fork everything looks okay, thrust bearing engaging on pressure plate spines and moving. I honestly thought the clutch driven plate was stuck on the flywheel. Help? Have i missed something?

hi, yes it does seem as the clutch plate is stuck to flywheel, i had that once with a cortina, started it in gear and drove away with foot on clutch and braked hard and it came away, someone will help out and get it sorted for you, tezzer

When the clutch went in my cortina it all locked up like yours and I was able to drive it home but only by starting it in gear and then changing gear matching the revs and forcing the gears.....unfortunately the clutch had to be replaced. hope yours unlocks, regards....bri

My mk1 trooper (one on the trailer in my Avatar ) often has trouble with the clutch sticking to the flywheel. Not that driving through deep water then not using it for a few months helps  .

What we did was to put the tow strap on it and drag it round a bit till it let go. This was done with it in 3rd gear and engine turned off. I could hear and also feel it let go.. But we knew for sure that this was the problem.. However as you don't it may not be a good idea unless your sure..

It may also be that the clutch plate is falling to bits, the linings on the plate can come away and jam between the flywheel and pressure plate, so even when the clutch is suppose to be clearing, there is no gap for the plate to rotate.

Hi All
Thank you for all of your replies, it is comforting in a strange way that i do not feel alone in this! with an addition to my original post, when i push the clutch down there aren't any weird and wonderful noises coming from the thrust bearing or pressure plate to indicate there was anything wrong. I also have an L reg Maverick ( probably in better condition-NO rust either!)
where the clutch pedal when you push it down is just the same feel as the R reg one.[/u]

Just an update, thought i would give it one more try before i decided to sell the Maverick. Braved the cold and dark, warmed her up to have a go at freewheeling in third gear down a hill then jumping on the brakes to force a separation or do some serious damage! Well, to cut a long story short. I was trying to get it started in gear when i could smell the clutch friction material burning. It all of a sudden freed itself, now the clutch works just fine. saved me a lot of money!
Thanks again for your support and suggestins.

hi accobra, glad you sorted out the clutch, now you can go indoors and get warmed up -welldone-
