Wishbone suspension bushes what type do I get?

First time for a 16 year old.....

I have looked at various threads, and I am getting mixed views as to what material to get. Poly or rubber.


Rocked the Mav yesterday and there is a noise that sounds like .....eeeeeeee .... orrrrrrrrrr when I press down on the nearside.
I think it's coming from the nearside upper wishbone bush at the front, following on from my own suggestion, I put loads of waxoyl on the bush and it has quietened it down. so I'm in the right area.

So it could be time to replace those bushes. (Passed MOT only 6 weeks ago).
I looked at the manual FA-33... onwards and you need a press to remove the bushes, now I know some have used a BIG hammer (Got several of those)
Some of the older Nissan ones have fallen out easily.

But is there an easier way or any tips...?

Also what parts do you buy, do you need to replace the lower bushes as well?
What material is best, poly bush or rubber, now the original have lasted 16+ years and 91k miles. So Nissan parts were great then.

Where is the best place to get them?

At 91k miles, 16+ years do you think it is time to replace them? :lol:lol
If I leave them alone, what could happen? :eek: :eek:

Assuming all bolts come undone easily, what time scale are we looking at per side? I have all the normal DIY mad Mechanic tools, also gear pullers, 3 leg pullers etc BUT not a bench press.

cant say for the nissan but when i swoped the metalastic ones on my land rover for a set of polybush ones i ended up burning some out on the chiminea mmm nice smell some were easy to put a hacksaw blade through and reatach to saw and put two cuts in and them drift them out. Poly bushes went in a lot easier

Rustic, they're a bitch to get out mate, nip round your local garage or tractor shop and use their press. I did mine with about 8 tonnes they eventually went.
Use the Nissan bushes, I used some fancy ones that lasted 6 months :doh
I've now changed to Calmini top arms and got bushes made locally , half the price and so far so good:thumbs
Bottom arm is even worse as it's the front end of the torsion bar gubbins. That's the only job I bottled out on and got the garage to do, thet didn't like it either :lol
I'd have thought the bottom bush will be good for another 90k mate :sly

The waxoyl I put on the bush has stopped it squeeking, so I might now put a pry bar on it to see how much it moves if any.

So what if it wears to the point of destruction, is it likely to fall apart.?
I guess it will be obvious before then with clunks, clonks and wandering steering..... I mean more wandering than normal. :lol
 
It'll just accentuate the camber initially. If they get really bad the whole top arm can move forwards and backwards :eek: not good:eek:
It was actually a 12 tonne press but the bushes gave up first:lol

Thanks I'll look out for that, big "G" clamp and a vernier to measure the movement then.
