There was a thread sometime ago about front foglights and the different set ups on the dfferent models etc but can't find it - if someone else manages to I can merge the threads.

Anyway - I've added a switch so I can use the standard front foglights as driving lights with them extinguishing when I dip the headlights. Used a Mk1 T2/Mav front fog light switch and put it in one of the spare cut outs on the dash. Took the feed for the switch from the Blue/white wire from the back of the left hand stalk and took the feed from the "new" switch back to the Orange/Blue wire on the back of the same multiplug from the stalk.

Its not a massive difference but easy job and nice and neat by using a Nissan switch in the dash too.


For my next lighting mod I need to locate the headlight relay(s) which seem to be somewhat elusive and not where the manual says they would be, If the stdset up turns out to not have relays on my age of truck I'll probably fit some before continuing.

Also on the list is putting an override switch in to the accessory (cigar lighter socket) relay so I can have it on without ignition and also powering that circuit from my second battery.

I've used the mk1 fog switches too for the roof lights and the rear working lights.
They light up too although a bit dim Is there a brighter bulb that can go in them?
I'm trying to rewire my front spots with a subaru twin switch, it's got two push in bits so I can have the dip and or the main beam on auto or off

I used an extra Mk1 switch on my Mk1 Mav to run the big spots before too.

What lights ave you got and what bulbs have they got in them?

That said it could well be your wiring as even a std 55w spot/fog light i pretty bright if wired well. For the Mac this year I had Cibie Bi-oscars up from along with the std headlights both pairs using 55/60w Osram Nightbreakers (+90%) - with both filaments of the spots on it was actually hard to tell if the main beam was on or off (3 way switch so I can use it that way). On the roof I had 2 drive and 2 fog lights from Ring with the std cheapo bulbs that came with em and the were pretty good on the whole, definitely light the forest up well (outer 2 turned at 45 degrees) when we were looking for stuff. When I eventually change my alternator to a bigger one I will upgrade the roof light bulbs to 100w or even 130w ones but I'm running out of alternator capa - city on the standard one, got 680w shining forward plus was usig 110 at the rear too some of the time on Mac (off the road on the observation sections, so we could see backwards) - thats 66amp or thereabouts

Front spots are PIAA dip/main with PIAA bulbs 115/80 or there abouts.
I struggled on the roof though because of the ampage:augie I put 115 watt bulbs in to start with and melted the plug:doh Gone back to 55w now and it works but still smells hot with the fattest cable I could fit in.
The bulbs I was asking about are the tiddly ones that fit in the switch:lol
My mate has got some fancy new LED spots on order (260 each) which are equiv. ish to 55w BUT only drawer an amp or so:naughty
He hopes to be having some sort of sponsorship deal with the import co. so will post details asap.:thumbs

I have ordered some LED bulbs , that allegedly produce the same light as nomal bulbs but use a mere smigeon of the power.

rated @ 130 Lumens for the fogs

If not E marked, technically not legal but thats not what MOT is looking for. They just wants to see that the pattern is right - which I am sceptical about as reflectors are built around there being a finite point from which light is emited - ie the element, if that element is not in the right place (as with some cheap bulbs) the pattern is wrong and you can fail MOT on them - with multiple little LEDS unless they are all where the element would normally be you run the same risk.

Funnily enough I've been having the same problem relay been somewhat elusive and not been where the manual is - and my truck is the same year as yours !

I think the headlight relay "should" be behind the little panel by the acclerator - one screw to remove. There shoud be another one in the same location on the other side.

Dont suppose you have fiund the alarm horn relay while looking ?

Ok bulbs have been shipped at a cost of £17 + UPS delivery from China

i recon thats makes them about £30.00 for a set of 4 once i pay duty and shit.

Need to sell approx 25 sets so pm me if you think you might want some in the future

Note : manufacture and shipping is about 4 weeks , and would need a deposit up front.

13 leds arent going to make much light.

bought some like this for in caravan to save power when on battery,
ok they might improve as they warm up but for now i'm not too
impressed, wondering if i'll need to put more than 1 bulb in each
cluster to improve situation, and will still draw way less juice.

having bought serveral different types/configurations i think
their output compared to equiv bulbs is vastly overstated.

hope you fare better.

Its actually not 13 leds , its 13 led packages that contain 4 leds in each package

Looks like 4 in that chip design but i guess we really wont know until I plug them in.

The ones i have ordered are 83LM you can get a 100LM version that only uses 4 leds.

This picture is taken using (allegedly) the 83LM bulbs but until I have done a similar test myself I wont take this as gospel.
