Windscreen Vent Top Of Dash

I got a nasty rattle from the windscreen vent on top of the dashboard. Today I popped the little panel off that has the alarm LED expecting to see a screw and assumed other end would be the same, then I could lift this vent out and give it some padding to stop the rattle. No can't do that, the little plate does pop off but there is no little screw behind it just a great big bolt head for god knows what.
Anyone any ideas how to remove this little vent so that I can stop it rattling?

It's the long vent approx 16 inch long directly below the screen.

do what I did and jam a piece of cardboard twixt plastic and screen....job done!
