Can anybody tell what a good winch is. Whats is the min lbs you can fit that will pull a large 4x4?

i think you will find it's 12000lbs to be on the safe side.:thumb2

You need advice from Terranosaurus or extreme-4x4 :thumbs

I'm no expert but anything over 3 tonne should be fine as you can double that with a block pully :thumbs

Mines a 3 tonne SuperWinch :D

Yep that's the size you want:D
You need to allow for being "Stuck" in the mud where your load is much greater than the weight of your truck.:sly
Terranos is your man though if he's about that is:augie

How stuck do you intend to get?

I was out with 4x4 Response at a training day and someone got a 90 stuck, took 2 x 12000lb winches with double line pulls so 48000lbs of winch pulling on it to very slowly get it free. That was after his own 12000lb ad given up the battle trying to get him out.

My advice would be to put the money you'd pay to buy a 12000lb one towards a better quality 8500-9500lb one and also budget for a good battery (or 2), thicker cabling and an Albright sealed all in one solenoid rather than the standard unsealed multi solenoid set up and put it up out of the way under the bonnet. The installation is just as important as the rating of the winch, if it can't get the current it can't provide the force whatever te rating says.

There are lots of cheap chinese copy winches about with next to no spares back up - if you use your winch you will eventually need spares. Service it after almost everyuse and definitely if its been under water/mud.

Look after you r winch and it will look after yo when you need it.
