Tirfor winches are great bits of kit, But they are slow and hard work!

Your better off getting a better rated one, there's quite a few ex military ones up on ebay which are better value and not cheap pressed metal. Although they may have been abused?

Wish I could justify buying a new one :(

Oooh very nice. They are good.

But that one has no cable..

Very slow and heavy.

What do u need it for

General laning. Getting myself out of a sticky situation, like as an absolute last resort. Never ever needed one, but scared without :nenau

You can always use a snatch block to double the pulling power. But means for every pull it will pull half as far.

Cheap electric winches can work quite well. Mine was like £160 new, 12000lb pull. Didn't let me down, Used for light/medium winching. No need to go any higher in pulling power as it will be slow as it's the same motor just better pulling power via gearing. Again a snatch block can be used if you need to pull more.

Winch-it have some good deals.

We have them on our fire trucks, good bit of kit, but as mentioned, there very slow and take a bit of setting up. They have a shear pin which protects the internals. We also have anchor plates with ours and these can be nailed into the ground with bloody long spikes.

I've been stuck up to the doors...That took a bit of towing & been stuck with just spin...takes less but still some pull power needed.
