I know its a matter of taste and I,m not having a pop but I can't abide whitewalled tyres.
The set I have fitted are in good order and I would like to remove the "white", is there a safe and easy way? could I use paint stripper? or an abrasive?
Any advice or opinion would be welcome.

they like the old style american ones or just white letters? would tyre dressing not cover it or permanent marker(jobs for kids lol)

I mean the white lettering, thats a good idea with the permament marker, worth considering.

if u let kids loose on em watch they dont get bored an carry on upside truck lol

Hi Rick

I suspect that the white finish is only 'skin deep', therefore perhaps a rotating wire brush on your electric drill might be a quick, permanent and painless way of going 'incognito'.

Eeek, don't do this, its more than likely that the black rubber sidewall is actually pretty thin, under this is likely to be a whitewall - so using any abrasive wouldn't be likely to remove the letters, more likely to make the tyre a full on "american" whitewall! While the permanent marker will work, as soon as you kerb your tyes the white will be visible.

TBH the best option may be to swap the tyres from side to side, meaning removal & refitting from the rims so that the tyres rotational direction remians the same, but rather than have the white letters visible, they then become the tyres inner sidewall, all but invisible when in use.

Permanent fix is to have the tyres turned on the rims as usually only one side has the white lettering, the other being simply black. Must admit I don't like em either so mine are mounted with the white lettering inboard though for complicated reasons the spare has the white lettering showing.

When I got my tyres fitted I got asked if I wanted the white lettering on the outside or the inside so when you come to replace the ones you've got on at the min you will be able to choose  but for now the only option would be to have the tyres removed from rims & turned around  I surpose you could try a black marker & colour the lettering in

its allready been covered but it is correct the white is usualy a whole layer of the tyre and there is only a thin skim of black over the top, with general tyres the black often comes of with kerbing leaving you with proper white walls, so dont try to remove it just get them turned around on the rims.

having said that I have some white 'paint' pens called 'tyre monkey' designed to re touch the white walls off tyres and coulour in uncoloured letters. Maybe they also do them in black? I have never enquired but it might be another option.

Funny that, I like the white lettering.......we all have different tastes

i like it to but it dont seem to last on mine perhaps its the off roading wears it away thats my excuse to go)

jut get the tyres turned round if it is that bad or just leave them till new ones put on then have the white walls on inside.

i dont know if tyre blackner would do the trick?

I am with Thor on this, But i suppose i would be being a shiny!

Has to be clean though or as new looking!.

I must admit i am 50/50 i like the lettering on some tyres and on some vehicels but it is not for everyone and every vehicle i suppose.

OOOps!!!..... I stand corrected!

JonathanM was right!......well almost. I took a craft knife to the (exposed) white letters of my Falkens and found that the whole thickness of the raised letter was indeed white rubber. However the lower normal surface of the tyre is black rubber, at least on my Falkens. So to remove the white bits one would have to grind off the whole of each raised letter. Perhaps a rotating wire brush was not the best of suggestions?

Humbly - CL

Great for the smokey and the bandit look - not sold on em at all on mine, except on the spare for some reason.

I haven't got a cover that fits, the tyres I've got on and I don't think they do a cover that will fit the tyres I'm looking at getting shortly.
