Which is a good wifi printer ?

We have several printers, but to be fair... they have had their day, non are WiFi, so if we need to print something from the ipad, we have to email it to ourselves, warm up the old computer, reboot it a couple of times, then open the emails then wait for word to load... Then print to find the cartridge has not been recognised, so re boot printer reload etc.
So from print request you are looking at a realistic 20 minutes to get a print.
OK I do not sit infront of the computer waiting all that time lol. Wash the car, cut the grass, go on the forums with my ipad etc.


So our spec is...
WiFi but MUST have USB port.
Must be compatible with ipad, apple air, iphone, android devices.
Must have off line copy facility, B&W and colour.
Scanner.
Fax, well not used the last one apart from testing it once, so not important.
Must be able to take cheapo cloned cartridges, and be able to be refilled.

Most important thing is ... to be able to work with XP Win 7 etc

Well I am not letting you guys do all my work but I have found one that does it all, the Cannon Pixma MX475, not sure what the difference is with the MX495 though.
Some say it's a bit noisy, takes a while to start printing, but unless there is a better one for £45 don't mind paying a bit more, but a laser one is too big lol

i bought a epsom workforce wf_2660 of amazon for £40 delivered and is brilliant all in one machine and the non genuine ink i use i got 50 coloured and black of fleaby for £13 delivered works fine on all our devices and is a nice quite small compact printer :thumb2

HP LaserJet Pro

I have a HP LaserJet Pro200 Colour MFP M276mv recommended by a friend who maintains Schools IT'

They are reliable and the cartridges are a reasonable price and last well. We use B&W mode for most stuff and just use colour when needed. It also is a good copier.

I have had it for about 15 months its only had one Black cartridge so far !

Wireless USB etc etc I have as a home network printer.

Thanks for the support and information, I checked both, the laser is a bit expensive and as I suspected, very few are compatible with Windows XP
I just checked on the internet for a couple of Canon printers, and they require Service Pack 3 to be installed, after a quick panic and check, it is installed.
So looks like a canon.

Mine runs on a Home network, my Laptop is Win 10 64k processor, My Office PC is Win 7 Professional 32k processor, my wife's Laptop is Win 7 Home version 32 k. The printer works on all 3 just fine. Not had XP for a few years I found it very stable compared to Win 10. It came with Drivers Disc for Vista. XP etc but if its over budget that's not much use.

I used to use a Brother HL-3070CW and it only cost £99 new with Cartridges, it weighs a Tonne really well built as well but it would cost me over a £100 a year to keep it in cartridges. The one time I had the toner re-filled at a local shop it just kept on coming up with error messages and was not right so stuck with genuine ones. The Wi-Wi packed up after about 3 years so it now only works hard wired so is relegated to the loft!

We went for the Canon MG5751 £49.99 Argos, 5 ink cartridges inc 1 black pigment and normal dye inks for the rest inc another black.

It duplex, prints on both sides of the paper, links via WiFi to ipad, wife's hudle, should link to ipad air, and it works with the old steam powered XP with service pack 3 computer, first time, via USB, which seems old fashioned now lol.
It has a scanner, copier in BW or colour. The down loadable manual is over 1000 pages long Has all sorts of editing tricks..:augie but I used the quick start guide, and I was able to do the basics within an hour.

Re expensive Canon cartridges, I have found a source of chipped refillable carts, not arrived yet, and 5x 100ml compatible inks, all for under £28 UK supplier.

It will be interesting how they perform.
A full set of Canon carts costs £60-£80
I read, not to set up auto updates for the printer, as they download software to defeat any new technologies that stop you buying Canon originals. :doh

Hopefully I am one step ahead lol.

I spent a lot of time researching the printer, and the cost of ink, hope I have made the right decision.
Wife was in Morrisons today, and bought 2 reams (500) of Canon A4 white plain paper, for £2 a ream... So looks like I will need the refillable cartridges very soon lol.

The above comments are based on my research that I believe suits our needs, we have not had the printer long enough yet to check it's suitability, reliability etc etc
So follow this information with caution, some may not like it, so do your research for yourself.
